The major holiday months may have just begun, but gifts are already arriving in the Lone Star State. Officials of a Central Texas town were surprised by an actor from an iconic Christmas film last week.
You know him, you love him, and you quote him. Comedian Will Ferrell, who stars in the 2003 classic Elf, was seen roaming the streets of Austin on Sunday, November 2. No, sadly, he was not wearing his green and yellow attire.
Members of the Austin Police Department were able to have a quick chat with him that afternoon. Officers shared details of the event in a Facebook post on Sunday, November 9, saying it’s “always a good day” when you bump into someone like him.
“Big laughs and good vibes all around — thanks for taking the time to chat and snap a pic with our officers, Will,” the Austin Police Association (APA) captioned the photo.
APA President Michael Bullock tells MySA the jolly sighting was made possible due to a Major League Soccer game that occurred at the Capital City’s Q2 Stadium that weekend. Ferrell attended it, according to Bullock. It’s not too much of a surprise. The match pitted a team from his home state, the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), against Austin FC. A lot was on the line for both groups, as it was an Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs game.
Ultimately, LAFC advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals night with a 4-1 win over Austin FC in Game 2 of their Round One Best-of-3 series, a media release states.
Bullock says Ferrell “stopped and had a friendly conversation” with some of the officers who were working the game.
It’s not his first visit to the town of live music and Tex-Mex. Last year, employees of the city’s Matt’s El Rancho got a free meet and greet with the celebrity as well.
“Will was so nice to the staff, and they got the biggest kick out of him being at the restaurant!” Paul Counter, Matt’s El Rancho general manager, told MySA at the time.
