Christy Martin Defends Sydney Sweeney Amid Ruby Rose’s Biopic Comments | E! News
Christy Martin is hitting back against criticism. The 57year-old former professional boxer is coming to Sydney Sweeny’s defense after Ruby Rose shared her not so nice opinion about Sid’s portrayal of the boxer in the biopic Christy. Christy captions a November 12th photo of her standing next to Sydney in character on set, writing, quote, “I’ve always been a fighter. My life reflected that in every way, and now I fight for others. The past few days, I have seen some people attack my friend Sydney Sweeney.” While not specifically mentioning Ruby’s comments, Christy continues, quote, “Sid not only worked her ass off for this film, she worked her ass off for me, for my story, for so many others suffering in silence. So, I want to be clear about who Sid is. She is my friend and ally.” The film opened November 7th and had one of the worst openings in movie history, grossing only 1.3 million domestically, its opening weekend, according to Forbes. Well, the dismal numbers prompted Ruby, who claimed she was involved in an earlier version of the project, to write a Threads message November 11th, saying, quote, “The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life-changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay.” It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time. She continues, quote, “For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the people. None of the people want to see someone parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretton and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better. [Music]
