George Clooney is blowing up his fragile relationship with former President Barack Obama — while sources say he’s quietly planning his own Oval Office campaign.

According to insiders, the bromance between the two high-profile Dems crumbled after Clooney called for an enfeebled President Joe Biden to step down in a stinging New York Times piece.

Obama quickly endorsed Biden’s veep Kamala Harris for president, but as for handing her the nomination without a quickie primary, “I think it was a mistake, quite honestly,” Clooney said in a recent interview with CBS’ Sunday Mornings.

That came after Hunter Biden attacked Clooney in an expletive-filled rant during an interview on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan, suggesting “Obama people” gave him “the blessing” to diss his dad in the Times piece.

Clooney tiptoed around talk that he was Obama’s puppet in the TV interview, insisting he alone decided to call for Biden to step aside after he clearly saw the doddering politico needed to go.

But, according to insiders, the back-and-forth about the issue has created a definite chill between the silver-tongued Ocean’s Eleven star and Obama.

Meanwhile, political insiders claim Clooney felt like a “fall guy” after being blasted for pushing Biden out, only to see Kamala’s campaign go down in flames.

As the National Enquirer has reported, Clooney was also ripped by Democratic donors who emptied their wallets to back a bad candidate.

“George stumbled badly with Obama, Biden, Kamala and the rest of them and he wants people to know how he truly feels about it,” says one Beltway insider.

For now, he’s working overtime behind the scenes in Hollywood to recoup his reputation and build support for his own ambitions — especially after Harris announced she’s “not done” and is weighing another White House run.

“George is pained over the mistakes he made. He wants to emerge as the alternative candidate for the liberal crowd even if Kamala makes a comeback with Obama’s support,” says an insider.

Although informed politicos say Clooney does not want a permanent split with Obama — who he considers a mentor — he’s ready to take his chances as a Democratic outlier with his own cabal of Hollywood power brokers.

“George still respects Obama and would want to have his backing but his mind is made up,” insists a source. “He will run with or without his support.”
