Days of our Lives’ Deidre Hall Details What Makes the Show Family | E! News

Congratulations. How does this I don’t know. We’re freaking out right now. We’re 59 years old. Yeah. I mean, I know like in the comment section, I can’t see it, but I’m hearing that that is you are who the people want to see. How does it feel that you’ve had this job and it’s kind of become I don’t know. I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but more than a job. It’s like you are an icon and the people that have followed you have been following you for a long time and they are truly invested. that must not every actor gets the opportunity to do something like that. You know what we do? I I I hesitate to overuse the word family. We are familyowned and run and that gives us a certain entity a certain cache that I think bleeds through the audience. We always have a a a show on Thanksgiving when people don’t have anybody come to their table. Yeah. And we have Christmas shows where nobody shows up at the tree to celebrate. Um we we give them everything. We give them most holidays. We give them weddings and and on occasion we give them funerals. Uh but mostly we give them family. I love that. What has playing Marlin for as long as you played her taught you about yourself? I can memorize. Thank God. Um I I love I love the familiarity of it. Uh I love coming to the same place, being in the same dressing room, parking in the same parking spot, working with the same hair and makeup people, having the same co-stars, knowing my directors. Uh because that intimacy breeds creativity. And when somebody feels safe, they give it all. They leave it all on the screen. And speaking of leaving it all on the screen, when when Peacock comes up, when with the Days of Our Lives and the 60th anniversary celebration reel that’s playing, a couple of those clips are your character getting possessed by the devil. When you It’s It’s like a real iconic moment on the show. When you first got that script, what went through your mind? I didn’t get the script. I was called. We we had seen things happening like Christmas trees catching fire and all different things happening that were there were very suspicious and uh I got called upstairs at one point which doesn’t happen very often. Um and our headwriter then Jim Riley was there with our executive producer and I sat down. He said it’s you. What’s me? It’s you doing it. Yeah. It’s me doing what? He said, “You’re possessed by the devil.” Oh my gosh. Oh man, I don’t even know. Except that Jim was a devout Catholic and had an a a very strong faith and a strong belief. And I thought this story is safe in his hands. I love that. And they went for it. If you don’t mind, we’re going to do a quick game. So, I’m going to read a couple of fan questions for from you for as long as this little tiny minute timer goes. Maybe I’ll flip it halfway through. All right. Taylor OS on Instagram writes, “What do you think is the main reason why the show has struck around for 60 years?” Stuck around, excuse me. Family familyowned and run. Salem stalker on Instagram says, “You portrayed Marina through five decades of changing television and culture. You’re an icon and probably the most recognizable face in daytime TV. Is there a moment where you realized you become something larger than your character?” My dad uh when I began in daytime would would go to the market with my mother. never happened. And apparent he would send the magazine rack and if there were a picture of me on a cover, he would wait till somebody else picked up the magazine. No. Yeah. And he would say, “Oh, oh, that’s my daughter.” Oh, man. That’s when I knew it was important. I love that. Uh, uh, Alexandra Deatira on Matthews on Instagram writes, “Uh, besides possessions one and two, what other storyline that pushed the confines of reality did you enjoy? Examples could be Paris golden cage or mellow sweat. Oh, that’s New Salem backwards. Um, uh, the cage. Cage was odd. Well, the cage the cage was a cage you could see through and I had one outfit and there was no kitchen and there was no, you know, bathroom. I don’t know. I think that that pushed credibility a little bit, don’t you? Yeah, a little bit. Thank you so much. It was so nice to meet you. Have so much fun tonight. Congratulations. Enjoy partying with your friends and co and colleagues. Thank you guys. Wonderful. Thank you. [Music]
