Dolly Parton Makes First Major Appearance Since Addressing Health Issues | E! News

Dolly Parton is looking back at her legacy. The 79year-old virtually accepts an honorary Oscar at the November 16th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Governor’s Awards, sharing a heartfelt message about the journey that led her to the milestone. But my mom and daddy showed me by example that the more you give, the more blessings come your way. And I have tried my whole life to live by their example. and I’ve been blessed more than I ever dreamed possible. At the ceremony where Tom Cruz, Win Thomas, and Debbie Allen were also honored, Dolly was recognized for her decadesl long humanitarian efforts, which includes her Dollywood Foundation that was founded to inspire children in her home county as well as her literacy program. The 9to5 star called the honor the blessing of a lifetime, adding, “And I don’t take this kind of thing lightly. It makes me want to dream up new ways to help lift people up. Dolly’s emphatic message comes as she has shut down rumors she’s been in poor health after she cancelled a few recent appearances, including pushing back her Las Vegas residency a year. The Islands in the Stream singer’s sister sparked renewed concern over a Facebook post asking for prayers. And though Freda and her sister Stella Parton set the record straight soon after, Dolly, whose husband of 58 years, Carl Dean, died in March, formally addressed the rumors that she’s been unwell, in an October 8th clip posted to her Instagram page. I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those of you that seem to be real concerned, which I appreciate, and I appreciate your prayers because I’m a person of faith. I can always use the prayers for anything and everything, but I want you to know that I’m okay. [Music]
