Meghan Markle has been accused by a royal commentator of “irritating” other royals through her most recent move. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has appeared on Harper’s BAZAAR after taking part in a new interview.
While many have praised the Duchess online, others have been quick to criticise her, especially as she continues to insist on being called the Duchess of Sussex – a title she still holds, despite not being a working royal. This is something that royal commentator and biographer Angela Levin has claimed Meghan does to irritate other members of the Royal Family.
Sharing a post about Meghan’s latest article on X, Levin wrote: “It’s her way of irritating other royals. She walked out of being a royal six years ago, but she’s still desperate to be something, but just can’t do it.”
While some people have criticised the fact Meghan still uses her duchess title, this is something she is entitled to do despite not being a working royal since 2020.
This is because Meghan and Harry were granted the titles The Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they wed in 2018 by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
This is a title that has not been taken away from them, and can only be taken away by a monarch.
The title is also believed to be important for Meghan as she once claimed the Sussex title was something she had in common with her children, with the family using Sussex almost like a surname.
Earlier this year, the duchess told People magazine: “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children.
“I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me,
“I think as the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’ I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex.”
It is unlikely Harry and Meghan will have their Sussex title taken from them.
