As Prince George, 12, finishes his last year at Lambrook School with his siblings Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, everyone is wondering where he’ll go to secondary school next fall. Will he go to the co-ed boarding school Marlborough College, like his mom Kate Middleton? Or perhaps Eton College, where his dad Prince William and uncle Prince Harry attended. Although it hasn’t been officially announced, royal insiders believe the Prince and Princess of Wales have already made their choice.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror, “Yes this is a big year ahead, as George becomes a teenager and, as William hinted when talking about phones, he’s clearly exploring a few boundaries. I suppose his new school has already been decided.”

Bond hints that she doesn’t think Middleton will send George to boarding school. “Personally, I think it’s a great shame if he’s going to be sent away to board and I would have thought that would go against some of Catherine’s central belief,” she said. “On the other hand, she went to boarding school and seemed to enjoy it, so I suppose she feels ready to cross that bridge with George.”

Just don’t expect an official announcement by the royals anytime soon. Melanie Sanderson, managing editor of The Good School Guide, told Hello! recently, “If the Wales family runs true to form, they will announce Prince George’s secondary school at the eleventh hour, possibly as late as September 2026.”
She added, “They understand that the school itself, as well as George’s new peer group, will fall under intense scrutiny as soon as it is revealed and will probably want to minimize this, allowing the young royal to transition to his new school with as little fanfare as possible.”
Sanderson believes that the royals will send George to Eton, which she described as “traditional, radical, expectation-busting and packed with confident boys with nary a hint of entitlement.”
“To me, this encompasses all the values we are told are important to this generation of royals,” she added.

Prince George is no doubt looking forward to this new school, not least because it’s likely he’ll get his first cell phone. “Our children don’t have phones,” Prince William recently shared in an interview with Brazilian TV host Luciana Huck. “When George moves onto secondary school, maybe he’ll have one with limited access.”
He’s been open about the potential risks of having a phone with George to prepare him for his eventual first phone. “We talk to him and explain why we don’t think it’s right,” Prince William continued. “With full access, children end up seeing things on the internet that they shouldn’t. But with restricted access, I think it’s good for messaging.”
Lots of big changes ahead for this future king!
