Eric Dane Gets Standing Ovation on Brilliant Minds Set Amid ALS Battle | E! News

Eric Dayne is getting his applause. After filming a guest appearance on the TV show Brilliant Minds, the Grey’s Anatomy actor received a 10-minute standing ovation. Eric pictured a firefighter on the episode with the same disease he has in real life, amiotroofic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as ALS. Speaking on the moment, the show’s creator, Michael Grassi, tells USA Today, “I have never seen this happen in my entire career, but he essentially got a 10-minute standing ovation after shooting that scene because it was so beautiful and so honest and so real.” He adds, “While this character is finding bravery, there’s a lot of bravery in Eric to tell the story as well. To come out and share this part of yourself is vulnerable, but also really important and I think raises awareness and shows people that they’re not alone.” Eric publicly announced his diagnosis in April of 2025, telling people at the time, “I’m grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. ALS is a lifealtering disease, destroying the nerve cells that control voluntary muscles, leading to muscle weakness, atrophy, and loss of control over movement. [Music]
