Author James Patterson is among those who believe Marilyn Monroe could have been murdered.
The bestselling mystery writer, whose upcoming book The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe: A True Crime Thriller, revisits the life and death of the Hollywood icon, thinks she may have been killed because of her connections to rich and powerful figures with secrets to hide such as President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra.
Patterson told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think that she was treading in very dangerous waters. They told her stuff, and she kept track of it. She had information that was kind of dangerous.”
Patterson researched Monroe’s life and career with co-author Imogen Edwards-Jones for the book, which includes a disclaimer in the fine print describing itself as “a work of fiction.”

The 78-year-old defended the decision to go over the blonde bombshell’s life and times again, as so many others have before. “A lot of people don’t know the story,” he said. “There’s a lot of stuff I didn’t know.”
“I didn’t know much about the death scene,” he continued. “The key is, a lot of people know about her a bit, but not that much. You’d be surprised.”
The Some Like It Hot star was found dead in bed in the early hours of the morning at her Los Angeles home on August 5, 1962 by her psychiatrist, who had been called by her concerned housekeeper. She was naked and an empty bottle of Nembutal sleeping pills was by her side. She was 36.
At the time, her cause of death was ruled as suicide by drug overdose, with sedatives found in her blood. However the coroner has since confessed that he disagreed with the findings. Many others questioned Monroe’s manner of death in the years that followed, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office opened a new investigation during the 1980s.
