The Gist
It has been the question on many royal followers’ minds—will Prince George attend Eton College or Marlborough College when he heads off to secondary school in September 2026?
Eton is Prince William’s alma mater, while Kate Middleton attended Marlborough.
A new report from Hello! now indicates that the public might not hear about the decision until the “eleventh hour.”
It’s the debate that’s raged on for what feels like forever: will it be Eton College, Prince William’s alma mater, or Marlborough College, Kate Middleton’s alma mater, for Prince George?
George, 12, will head off to his new school next September, and it might be closer to that date when the public learns where the future king is headed for his next educational pit stop. Currently, George and his younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are all enrolled at Lambrook School; while Marlborough is co-ed, Eton is boys only, so Charlotte wouldn’t be able to join her older brother there in due course.

In a new report, Hello! predicted that the announcement about George’s future might be delayed, with Melanie Sanderson telling the outlet, “If the Wales family runs true to form, they will announce Prince George’s secondary school at the eleventh hour, possibly as late as September 2026”—the same month George is due to begin secondary school classes, wherever that may be.
“They understand that the school itself, as well as George’s new peer group, will fall under intense scrutiny as soon as it is revealed and will probably want to minimize this, allowing the young royal to transition to his new school with as little fanfare as possible,” Sanderson added.

For her part, Sanderson—as many do—think Eton is the pick. Historically, the Prince and Princess of Wales have waited, indeed, until closer to the start of school to announce their decisions, like when they announced their decision for their children to attend Lambrook just two weeks before classes started. This is compared to William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who announced their decision to send William to Eton in June 1995, three months before he started school in September.
According to a report in The Mail on Sunday, “all roads lead to Eton,” with insiders saying that there is a “smugness” radiating from the school.
“It was like, ‘I know something, and the people at Eton know something, but I’m not going to tell you,’” a source told the outlet.

Back around Easter, William and Kate reportedly made an under-the-radar visit to the school. “It’s the talk of the school, and of the parents,” a source told The Daily Mail at the time.
