Robert Irwin wins ‘DWTS,’ gives sister Bindi an emotional shoutout

The winners and new champions of Dancing with the Stars are Robert and Whitney. My sister said it best. Thank you for changing my life. Oh my god. Robert Irwin choked back tears after he and his professional partner Whitney Carson won season 34 of Dancing with the Stars. The son of the late Crocodile Hunter gave his sister Bindy a shout out. She won ABC’s dancing competition 10 years ago. Back in 2015, an 11-year-old Robert made this adorable appearance. One of the big questions we get in from all the fans out there is, “Look, would Robert ever consider doing Dancing with the Stars as a dancer?” Would you, as a celebrity, would you do it? Definitely. I would love to. Can you imagine how good this would be? So much fun. Right now, Hayes is the youngest person ever on Dancing with the Stars. He’s only 15. Robert, how old are you? Uh, I’m 11 right now. He’s 11. I’m thinking Robert for next season. That’s what I’m thinking. Robert told People Mag to follow in those footsteps and to do the same has meant everything to me. The 21-year-old is the son of Australian conservationalist Steve Irwin, who died from being stabbed in the heart by a stingray while filming a nature dock. Robert was just 2 years old at the time. On Tuesday night, he and Bindy posed with their mom, Terry, holding two Len Goodman Mirrorball trophies, named after the show’s longtime judge, who died in 2023. Robert’s big win wasn’t a sure thing, though. Ahead of the show, his partner had to make lastminute changes to the choreography due to Rob battling rib pain in rehearsals. My body is feeling it. Robert’s body is feeling it. We’re like kind of falling apart right now. You’d never know it watching him dance, sliding on his knees, and ripping his shirt open as the crowd went wild. Back in April, Robert caused an international stir when he became the face and the bod of Bomba’s underwear, posing in just his skiibbies with some very lucky reptiles. This Instagram post has nearly 1 million likes. Criy. On the dance floor, Robert had some stiff competition in the heartthrob department from Zack Efron’s little brother and traitor star Dylan Efron. He ended up coming in fourth place. Gymnast Jordan came in third, and the runner-ups were podcast host Alex Earl and longtime dance pro Valramovski. He’s won the Mirrorball Trophy three times in the past. Co-host Julianne Huff said this finale had the most votes cast ever from viewers at home, and she revealed the gap between the first and second place pairs was the tightest they’d ever seen in the show’s history. Someone who’s happy about the results, season 32 winner and Disney Channel actress Sochil Gomez. She gushed on Instagram. I am so incredibly proud of you two. What a season. She and Rob sparked dating rumors when they jived together during the show’s 20th anniversary show and when they were spotted having a private meetup on the Dancing with the Stars lot. Clearly, this guy’s got moves. And he chatted with Page 6 all season long. So good to see you guys. I didn’t get to talk to you last week, but you were told by Derek best dance in best first dance in the history of Dancing Stars, and then this week you topped the leaderboard with Whitney and Mark. How are you feeling right now? That’s incredible. I honestly don’t know what to say. Like I the last two weeks I’ve just been in a state of absolute shock. Like it it’s but honestly the word is just grateful. I I’m so grateful, you know, for for the judges and for this whole process, but also I’m just grateful to be living out what is a childhood dream and also more than anything else to be on this journey with Whitney. It’s the best. Yes, you’re in good hands with Whitney. What kind of advice have you been giving him in these first two weeks of the show? Um, we haven’t seen on TV. Just soak it all in because every moment you won’t get back. So, we’ll never do the drive like that ever again. We will never do the tango like that again. So, it’s just soaking it all in and, you know, all the nerves that’s always going to come. But just remembering, you know, there’s a bigger purpose. It’s it’s more than a dance competition. It’s how we make people feel and just being connected as a partnership and hopefully that works. So, 100%. And, you know, lots of advice. I guess we kind of get along. You know, I guess we we managed like you know, he’s okay. Whatever. You never know. Well, I’m sure you’re getting a lot of advice. Bindy, your sister, was clearly a legend in this ballroom. Um, did she give you a list of like dos and don’ts of Dancing with the Stars, how to get far in the competition? Yeah, I mean, Bindy really said and echoed exactly what you just said. She said, really lean into this and really savor every second because she was here the whole time. She made it the whole three months. She won and she said it went by in the blink of an eye. Bindy is an inspiration to me in so many facets of life, you know. dancing is is one of them. Um, but in every facet, she’s just always been almost like a second mom to me, you know. She’s just she’s everything to me. And my family being here to support to support us, to be here on this journey, it means the the world. And um I tell you what, when when we did our first meet, you know, you get a day when you first meet your partner. We got back and my whole family were there at the apartment and suffice it to say, there were a lot of high fives going around. Everyone was like, “Oh my gosh.” Because you know it’s like the old gangs back together. It’s really cool. Yeah. And I mean I’m sure that’s no added pressure to you, but you got to get another urban air involved. What strategies do you have in place? Honestly, that is a loaded question. My god. I always just say take it one week at a time. Just be in charge of what you can control. You know, I’ll do my very best and he puts forth his very best effort every day. So, we’re just going to continue to do that and focus on each day and then we’ll see where that lands us. And lastly for you guys, next week is the first ever Dancing with the Stars Tik Tok night. We’re all so excited. What is it going to entail? Because the show started on this Tik Tok dances happening, you know? I mean, Tik Tok is such a huge platform for dance. So, we kind of just want to celebrate that it brings people together. People want to dance with you. I mean, that’s the joy about dance is you want to do something that gets people up, gets people moving. So hopefully it’ll just be a really entertaining show and a lot of fun. It’s going to be great. It’s going to be great. Really great. I’m excited. Well, thank you guys so much. Hey Gen Z, all you Gen Z Tik Tockers, it’s going to lowkey slap Sigma. You You hear me? We talked to Teen Vogue not that long ago. Next week is the first ever Dancing with the Stars Tik Tok night. We’re all so excited. What is it going to entail? Hey, Gen Z, all you Gen Z Tik Tockers, it’s going to lowkey slap Sigma. You You hear me? You guys danced to Milliondoll Baby tonight. Are you feeling like a million bucks after that dance? Yes, ma’am. Yes, he is. Let’s go. A few times I was like, “Oh, maybe not the shirt rip.” My big sister in me was like, “No, I don’t like it.” I was bummed that I had to put the shirt back on. I That was a bit of fun. I like it. I was going to ask whose idea was it to go shirtless? Because I’m sure you’re That’s helping rack up the vote. It was I mean, it was both of us. It kind of started with me though. I was like, “It’s Million-Dollar Baby. It’s an edgy song. It’s Tik Tok night. And I wanted to show a different side to myself. I knew that there were cool guy Robert was in there somewhere and I was like, I want to unleash a new energy. And then he’s like, “All right, let’s go for it.” And we went for it. We went for it. We did. That’s helping with the votes. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. I mean, hopefully they’re looking at our dancing, too. But it might have been a little bit too distracting. I mean, honestly, I’m so proud of Robert. He did everything that I asked him to do in this salsa. like every footstep, everything. So, I couldn’t be happier, more proud. Last week, you said you’re looking for the American Girl. I’m sure there’s going to be even more DM. I don’t know. Was that Was that Oh my goodness. The DM the DM. The DM. Well, first of all, it it um it just means means so so much. But yeah, I I am I’m on the lookout and it’ll it’ll happen when it happens. But um yeah, watch this space. So busy right now, girls. Okay, we’re trying to win a mirrorball. So settle down, baby. Don’t email me hundred times a day. I love you so much. Robert, I have to do this. How is the vetting process going between you and Bindy? Because that you’re working overtime. I feel it’s stressful. Bindy is taking a backseat. She’s like, I can’t deal with it anymore. I It’s up to you now. And I’m like, no wonder you quit this. Bindy’s like, oh, what are you going taking your shirt off and all this? Oh my gosh. My family were in the audience and I did the shirt rip and they look over I’m like, “Oh, this is kind of we” But they’re like, “Ah, no worries.” You know, so it’s I’ve got a supportive bunch in my corner. It’s great. I absolutely loved seeing you, Whitney, take a peek into Robert’s world. What was that experience like? It was really fun. I was a little scared at first because you think gator and you’re like, “That’s going to eat me.” Um, but then I got right into it into it and you know once you’re educated about the animals, they’re actually really not that bad. Like they’re actually really cute and I was touching these little chubby legs and very cute. Not cuddly. I don’t want to cuddle with it. I’ll leave that to you. I I’ll do the cuddling for you to bring her into your Oh, it was so much fun because, you know, I feel like I’ve been in this in this dance world and and I’ve just um feel like I’ve gained a new bestie, honestly, a new big sister. And it is really special to just sort of take Whitney in for a little slice of what what life’s like being an Irwin, you know? It’s it was really really special. It was cool to see a different side of you too though cuz like I you really like locked in alligator side, you know? You could tell he like locked in on like his thing. Like you could definitely tell you changed a little bit. What can you tease about next week’s Disney night song, dance? Couple words. Fun fun. It’s really fun and light and happy. It’s very fun and lighting. We’re just going to pump out positivity. We just want this one to be something that people can get behind and just absolutely love and enjoy, you know. First, do it. Shirt staying on. Yeah, we’re not taking that off anytime soon.

They’re cut from the same cloth.
