Lacey Chabert Outfits That Left Us Scratching Our Heads
Lacy Shabar has grown up a whole lot since she started Mean Girls, but her outfits haven’t always been very fetch. Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen. It’s not going to happen. It’s hard to tell whether her outfits and the as were appropriate for the time or if they’ve always missed the mark. You be the judge. On a breezy 2002 day in Malibu, Lacy Shabar had some fun in the sun at a beach party while wearing a Y2K era split bottom top that appeared to mimic suede. Just below the bodice, the shirt split into two to show off Shabar’s midriff, complete with a dangling brown charm matching the subtle detail on the shirt fabric. Her long V-neck top was split at the sleeves as well and layered over jeans, an unmistakable early 2000’s trend. Heading to the beach in jeans is a huge no-go if you ask us. At least her earrings looked good. You know that I’m not allowed to wear hoop earrings, right? Yeah. 2 years ago, she told me that hoop earrings were her thing. In 2004, the same year she played a teenager in Mean Girls, Shabir tried to look more grown up when attending the 13th annual Diversity Awards. Her noir gown hugged her hourglass shape in a stretchy fabric that looked like a ’90s style popcorn shirt at the right angle. The halter top connected to a plunging V-neck, leaving her back bare. The bottom of the dress included a sheer hem detailed with floral embroidery. Then there was Shabar’s outfit at a pre- Golden Globe celebration in January 2004. Between the low-rise jeans and excessive layers, she looked like an early 2000’s nightmare. A camisol top with a shawl and a chunky belt, there’s simply too much going on there. Was Shabar trying to replicate the color of an awards statue with her neutral color palette? Perhaps, but the casual getup looked like it was put together by a teenager who hadn’t quite figured out how to balance clothing. I’m sorry that people are so jealous of me, but I can’t help it that I’m popular. There’s nothing wrong with a bold statement piece, but choosing the right one can be a challenge. Here’s a tip. If you find herself dawning a feather boa, you’ve gone too far. Shabar didn’t seem to understand this when she walked into a fashion show at the 2005 Race to Erase MS Gala, which raises funds for multiple sclerosis research. Legendary designer Tommy Hilfiger served as co-chair, but his style expertise was seemingly nowhere to be found. Other celebrities at the show wore styles that ranged from casual jeans to glamorous dresses, while Shabar’s wardrobe looked like it belonged on a tired Vegas showgirl. In 2006, singer Nicholas Shay invested in a now defunct social media platform called Why Fly? A launch party was held at a swanky nightclub, but Lacy Shabar seemingly didn’t get the memo to wear something classy and high-end. She opted for a bulky red silk dress that looked more like a naughty neglige. If that wasn’t bad enough, the garment appeared to be a few sizes too big for her, and pairing it with boring black heels made it feel even more awkward. While most of Shabar’s fashion missteps took place before 2010, she’s never been immune from the occasional wardrobe stumble. The sheer dress bodice that she wore in 2017 was the correct size. But if you’re going to show off your undergarments, you should probably save it for the right occasion. But at an awards show for dogs, that’s kind of rough. Sure enough, Shabar’s bralette was visible through her outfit when she walked the red carpet at the American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards. I’m presenting the award for military hero dog. That’s a big one. I’m very, very excited about that. Her silhouette was charming and flattering, and the textured detail on the skirt was chic, but the peekaboo detail and uneven lining of the neck feel like obvious fashion don’ts.
