Home Improvement’s Zachery Ty Bryan, girlfriend jailed: full timeline of domestic violence history
Zachary Ty Bryan has gone from beloved sitcom star to behind bars once again. The Home Improvement alum and his girlfriend Johnny Fay Cartwright were both arrested in Eugene, Oregon. And Page 6 has a full timeline of the actor’s history of domestic violence. On Saturday, November 29th, the 44year-old was arrested for violating his probation, stemming from his 2023 arrest on assault and robbery charges following a dispute with an unidentified woman. His probation forbade him from having contact with the victim without prior approval. It’s unclear if the woman in question is his current girlfriend, Cartwright. Zachary Ty Bryan was previously married to Carly Matro from 2007 to 2020. However, he shares multiple children with Cartwright. In the latest Oregon arrest, she was charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, and attempted assault. The two have a rocky relationship dating back to 2020 when he was charged with felony strangulation and convicted of menacing and assault. The police report detailed the scary scene. She woke up to him pulling on her hair and hitting her all over missing phone chargers. Brian later told the Hollywood reporter that it was blown out of proportion and that he didn’t even really get that physical. We got really loud. We were screaming. And because we were in a town home that had thin walls, everybody could hear. In 2024, the troubled actor was arrested twice for suspected DUI. Once in California, another in Oklahoma. Then on New Year’s Day 2025, he was taken into custody after he quote punched a woman multiple times and threatened to kill her. Again, it’s unclear if that woman was Cartwright. Last month, an unidentified ex of his was granted a 5-year restraining order against him. She accused him of punching her in the head in July. On November 13th, Brian called it a painful wakeup call and blamed his struggles on early success, telling TMZ, “Fame as a child actor left scars. Being thrust into the spotlight at 9 years old brought pressures I wasn’t equipped to handle, but that’s no justification for my choices as an adult.” Brian shot to fame in the9s playing big brother Brad Taylor on the hit ABC sitcom Home Improvement, which ran for eight seasons. As for his most recent arrest, he was denied bail and will remain behind bars until Wednesday, December 3rd.
