While the British royal family may be constantly in the spotlight fulfilling their duties, there is a lot that watchers don’t know including the specific details of the net worth.
Dazzling in historic jewels and tiaras is not their own show of wealth. As one of the oldest monarchies, the family also owns large estates, castles, artwork and so many more.
What is the net worth of the British royal family?
There are some public reports regarding the family’s financial status. In 2021, Forbes reported they were worth $28 billion.
How much is King Charles worth?
When King Charles ascended the throne in 2022, his wealth substantially increased. The Guardian claimed in March 2025 that King Charles was worth £640 million, or $1.2 billion AUD.

This estimate was based on his personal assets including his investment portfolio inherited from late Queen Elizabeth and private estates.
In 2022, it’s believed Queen Elizabeth’s net worth was £370 million, or $700 million AUD.
How much are the Prince and Princess of Wales worth?
Prince William has multiple income revenues. He inherited a multi-million dollar trust fund from his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother.
The Prince of Wales also has access to the Duchy of Cornwall, which provides the family more than $30 million in revenue per year. Duchy of Cornwall is a portfolio featuring property and other financial investments which total $2.4 billion.
While Princess Catherine hasn’t inherited the royal wealth like her husband, the princess’ family is worth millions given her parents own their own company, Party Pieces.
Celebrity Net Worth has reported Princess Catherine’s personal net worth is about $10 million. Princess Catherine does however get paid for being a working royal.

How is the British royal family funded?
The monarch and his family are paid via the Sovereign Grant, an allowance paid by the government to support the monarchy’s official duties.
Royals receiving this funding include King Charles III and other senior members of the family like Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Catherine, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
Do members of the British royal family pay rent?
As we previously mentioned, the family owns multiple mansions and castles across the country. But do they have to pay rent on these properties?

Well, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are paying ‘peppercorn rent’ on Bagshot Park, a 51-acre mansion with 120 rooms in the English countryside. Peppercorn rent means a nominal sum is paid in order to satisfy the legalities.
The Times has claimed Prince Edward “paid £5 million upfront for a lease of 150 years, but pays only a peppercorn rent,” according to a lease extension signed in 2007.
£5 million equates to roughly $10 million AUD.
This news was released at a difficult time for the family, given Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, was also paying peppercorn rent on the Royal Lodge. Andrew initially paid £8.5 million for the property, approximately $17 million AUD.
Peppercorn rent aside, yes, royals do have landlords! After inheriting Cornwall, Prince William earns around $1.2 million in rent from King Charles, according to The Sun.
