Zachery Ty Bryan was nearly run-over Saturday by a woman at a Lane County campground, deputies say — and both she and the former ‘90s child star ended up behind bars.

Bryan, a 44-year-old Eugene resident, staked a claim to fame for his television role as the eldest child of Tim Allen’s character in the sitcom “Home Improvement,” which ran for eight seasons on ABC.

The former actor has been convicted of fourth-degree assault in 2020 and 2023, and was ordered to have no contact with the mother of his three children, Johnnie Cartwright, as part of a plea deal in the 2023 case that sentenced him to three years of probation and seven days in jail.

But Lane County sheriff’s deputies said they responded to the campgrounds off Big Fall Creek Road around 12:30 p.m. Saturday and found both Cartwright, 32, and Bryan in a state of intoxication.

The couple had been driving with their kids in a pickup truck when a fight broke out and Bryan sprung from the cab, deputies say, prompting Cartwright to aim the pickup at him. Authorities say he dodged out of the way and no one was injured.

Bryan was arrested and taken to the Lane County Jail for allegedly violating his no-contact order with Cartwright, jail records show. He remains in custody Monday with no court date set.

His attorney in the 2023 case declined to comment.

Cartwright also remains in custody on suspicion of reckless driving, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence of intoxicants. No attorney has been appointed to her case so far. She was previously convicted of fourth-degree assault in 2021 and was ordered to spend 10 days in jail and have no contact with two other men, records show.

Deputies said the children were staying with a family member.
