After decades working as full-time journalists, we – The Royal List’s Kerry and Maria – are more than used to the relentless daily and weekly deadlines. However, there are some perks to our high-pressure jobs and this week, Maria, was lucky to get a fantastic one – an invitation to have her hair done at Jo Hansford – Camilla’s trusted hairstylist for the last 30 years and founder of one of the UK’s top salons.
Camilla loves Jo’s expertise so much so that in 2024, she awarded her a Royal Warrant. “It’s a real honour to be granted a Royal Warrant from the Queen, who I have been proud to have as a client for more than three decades,” Jo said at the time. She also said the first time she saw Camilla she knew immediately, “she had to be blonder”. The Queen has remained a loyal client ever since, and Jo has managed her tresses through her wedding to Charles and the 2023 coronation. “Camilla does have a great sense of humour,” she once told The Telegraph. “And we both love our gardens.”
Jo Hansford MBE is known as the “first lady of colour” and “best tinter on the planet” and runs, “the largest female-owned independent salon group in London”. Camilla has been seeing Jo ever since she opened her Mayfair salon on South Audley Street. And that’s where Maria heads one Thursday morning, for a frizz-busting, ‘Hair Botox’ smoothing treatment.
