Meghan Markle’s father has been admitted to the intensive care unit for an emergency surgery, his son has disclosed.

Thomas Markle, 81, was rushed to a hospital in the Philippines on Tuesday after he fell seriously ill at his residence. Meghan’s father underwent a three-hour operation on Thursday, local time, and is currently in intensive care, according to his son.

The 81-year-old is now scheduled for another procedure to remove a blood clot, added his son Thomas Jr., reports Mirror UK.

The relationship between Thomas Sr. and Meghan deteriorated, leading to their estrangement in 2018, following Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry.

In a conversation with the Daily Mail, Thomas Jr. recounted how he hurriedly took his father to a local hospital in the Philippines where doctors declared “his life was in imminent danger” after conducting several scans.

Thomas’s other daughter Samantha claimed she believes her father’s health has worsened due to pressures on him in the past few years.

Samantha said: “He is a strong man, but he has been through so much. I am praying that he is strong enough to survive this. My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can pull through this.”
