Miley Cyrus says her bizarre paper phobia disrupts daily life: "Makes me want to vomit"
Well, Christmas. I’m known as a little bit of a Grinch because I have a qualm with Christmas. What is it? I I hate paper. Like, I looking at that makes me want to vomit. Don’t even do it. Should I move it away? That’s worse. If you thought Mariah Carey owned Christmas drama, think again. Because Miley Cyrus has just revealed she has beef with paper. Yes, paper. The thing your printer eats and your Amazon packages are stuffed with. Miley wants none of it. The pop superstar and former Hannah Montana icon stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live and ended up delivering one of the most unexpectedly relatable confessions of the year. She has a full-on no joke phobia of paper and not like, “Oh, that texture is weird.” No, Miley says it literally makes her want to vomit. Like that book is like giving me hell right now. Yeah, the book Cameron. Yeah, it’s like in Jaws where you just barely ever see the shark. That’s it. You know, that’s been kind of like with the paper. Uhhuh. Yeah. Hey, you got to do something about that. I know. I’m I’m working on it. The moment she sat down, Miley launched into what she called her qualm with Christmas. Not the music, not the fruitcake. No, the wrapping paper. The crinkly, dry, staticky stuff everyone else loves ripping open. For Miley, it’s a seasonal hazard. And it turns out it’s not just wrapping paper. The note card on Kimmel’s desk, vomitinducing. The book he was holding, immediate discomfort. And if someone with dry hands touches paper, Miley described it as a real problem, complete with live gagging on national television. She even admitted she sometimes throws away heartfelt handwritten letters without opening them. Not because she’s cold-hearted, just because stationary apparently feels like the enemy. So, if you ever want to contact Miley, the method is simple. Text, email, or call. Preferably not on a landline because those usually come with paper bills. Dangerous. Now, before you panic, rolling papers, those are fine. Totally chill. Tablets, love them. Books, well, only if they come in touch-free digital form. But cardboard boxes, specifically Amazon boxes, absolutely not. Miley says cardboard is extra dry, contains extra packaging, and basically exists to ruin her day. Which brings us to possibly the most Miley Cyrus explanation ever. She’s engaged to Max Morando and one major perk, he handles the package opening outside like a cardboard bomb squad. When Jimmy asked her a logical question, Miley had to reflect back on wedding number one. Will you even sign the marriage certificate or will somebody have to do that for you? She thinks the paper was waxcoated, but also admitted she had smoked one of those imaginary joints before the ceremony, so details are hazy at best. Iconic. But here’s where things turn a bit more serious. Miley says the phobia is getting worse. She’s working on it and actively looking into treatment, possibly EMDR therapy or even hypnosis. And actually, she’s no stranger to EMDR. She used it to help overcome stage fright and told the New York Times last summer that the sessions saved her life. According to Miley, EMDR feels like watching a movie in your mind, but also dreaming, but also not dreaming. Basically a vibe that only Miley Cyrus could explain. So for now, the pop star is managing life one avoided sheet of paper at a time. And honestly, if Miley can face stadium crowds, global fame, and a literal wrecking ball, but draws the line at an Amazon box, that feels extremely real.
Miley Cyrus opened up on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about her unexpected phobia of paper, from wrapping paper to Amazon boxes. The singer joked, gagged, and got candid about how the fear affects her everyday life⦠even her wedding plans. Watch the full video for all the funniest moments and Miley’s plan to finally get help.
