Prince Harry isn’t denying that there’s plenty of drama wrapped up in his family.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, compared his personal life to that of the iconic British TV show during an appearance as a guest speaker at the recent British-American Business Council’s 65th Annual Christmas Luncheon.
“People sometimes ask if growing up with the royal family was a bit like [show creator] Julian’s [Fellowes] Downton Abbey,’ Harry said.

“Yeah, but only one of those worlds is filled with drama, intrigue, elaborate dinners [and] marriages to Americans – and the other is a TV show.”
The cheeky comment came during his keynote speech at the event.
Elsewhere, he noted that this was the “first Christmas party” he had attended in “a while”.
The father-of-two also made another comment about being a Brit living in the US, regarding next year’s FIFA World Cup.

“Next year, we are all welcoming many more fellow Brits from across the pond, provided they behave, and that they make it through customs, past ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The World Cup is coming to the US… both England and Scotland have qualified – it’s a Christmas miracle!” he added.
While it was a Christmas event, he also touched on celebrating the Fourth of July and how it’s been a new experience for him.
“It’s a new world to me, celebrating independence from Britain, and more specifically, independence from my great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather,” he noted.

Getting right into the holidays is something his wife, Meghan Markle, has become known for.

The speech from Harry at the event came just days after he made a surprise appearance on The Late Show with Steven Colbert.
Harry joked that he had become lost while searching for an audition to play a prince in a holiday rom-com – the “Gingerbread Christmas Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska”.
Colbert asked why an actual Prince would want to star in such a production, and Harry replied, “You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not.”
Challenged on the notion of an American “obsession,” Harry quipped: “Really? I hear you elected a King” in an apparent nod to the “No Kings” demonstrations aimed at the Trump administration.
The reference prompted a chorus of pantomime “boos” from the audience.
