Why Kristen Stewart Feels “Unstoppable” Working With Wife Dylan Meyer
We have very very different um sort of uh very cohesive energies. And this might sound totally arrogant, but I think that we’re kind of unstoppable. People say to me all the time, “Did the things in your stories actually happen?” I don’t know. Kristen, I know you obviously you’ve grown up on sets and you spent so much time working on this and preparing for it, but once you got into the process of directing your first feature, did something surprise you about actually being in that, you know, that position? The most exciting thing about directing is opening yourself to surprise because the whole thing is like creating a a structure in which everyone can sprawl and chaotically kind of like figure out why all of our impulses led us here. My favorite directors have this like insane, hungry, selfish, driven, psychotic desire. And it’s you look at that and you go, “God, I want that. I want to want something that much.” And I have to figure out what my desire is cuz it can’t be his, it has to be mine. And then when you kind of match that energy, you realize that you’re just like flying together. So everything about making a movie is a surprise. I mean, you plan and you plan and you plan and then the execution is, I mean, consistently shocking. As an actor, I find myself to be completely like unruly and all over the place and I never know where we’re going. And in this case, I was like, I know exactly where we’re going. And then we got to set and I was like, I don’t have any idea where we’re going. I have to follow you and we have to trust our instincts. And no, I mean, the the whole everything about making a movie is discovery. So, it’s it’s it’s a constant surprise. curious. You you and Dylan works on so many creative projects together. When you’re brainstorming, is it chaotic or is one of you chaos and the other is structure or how do what is the interplay there in that in that creative process? We’ve written together before. She’s a consumate writer. I’m like I write only because I have to. I find it miserable. I find it I like to shoot. We have very very different um sort of uh very cohesive energies and it makes the team I mean self self-proclaimed which is embarrassing. This might sound totally arrogant but I think that we’re kind of unstoppable. No, I love that. Yeah. No, I think uh she’s I think so. She’s meditative and she is very very macro. Um I am so micro, you know what I mean? It it just works. [Music]
