On December 6th, journalist Pedro Jota Fernández (journalist from Murcia) confirmed that the Princess of Asturias, accompanied by her instructor, completed her first training flight aboard a Pilatus PC-21, the Princess and her instructor flew over the Mar Menor lagoon three weeks ago. This means that the Princess of Asturias has now completed the 50 hours required to be eligible for her first official flight with an instructor. Journalist Pedro Jota Fernández also revealed that the Princess of Asturias completed her first flight earlier than expected. Instructors at the Academia General del Aire had planned for her first flight with an instructor in late December or early January.
Jota Fernández commented that unlike other years, it has not been possible to see the Princess of Asturias in public places in Murcia, because the Princess of Asturias has spent more time inside the facilities of the Academy (possibly practicing in the simulator) due to the high level of complexity of the Flight Course.
The journalist is right; both theoretically and practically, this is the most difficult year for the Princess of Asturias.
Flight Training Course Phases at the General Air Academy:
PHASE I – Elementary Flight (3° Curso): 50 hours of simulator flight, 20 hours of flight instruction in the Pilatus PC-21.
PHASE II – Basic Flight (4° Curso): Flight instruction in different scenarios (formation flying, flying in adverse weather conditions, night flying) and first solo flight (without an instructor).
PHASE III – Advanced Flight (5° Curso): Flight specialization in combat aircraft units.
