Josh Hutcherson Was Almost Cast as Spider-Man Before Andrew Garfield | E! News

Josh Hutcherson reveals that he was almost Spider-Man during an appearance on the Dinners on Me podcast with Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The actor shares that he auditioned to be the friendly neighborhood superhero before he landed the role in the Hunger Games. A few months before I got cast in Hunger Games, I was like in the running to be Spider-Man. And so I had gotten told no to Spider-Man, which as like a teenager felt heartbreaking because I really obviously wanted to be Spider-Man for sure. And then like a few months later, I got cast in Hunger Games, which is like the craziest turn of events. Josh went on to star as Peter Malar in the Hunger Games franchise alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth. While the role in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man went to actor Andrew Garfield. And though the rejection was quote heartbreaking, Josh previously admitted that he is open to joining the Spider-Man multiverse, telling Inverse in 2024 per deadline, “Yeah, I’d be open to it. I’d throw some webs around. So, while it may be a while until Josh puts on the Spidey suit, fans can get ready for the fourth installment of the new Spider-Man franchise, as Tom Holland has teased what’s to come in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With him telling Flip Your Wig in July, we’re really going to lean into that old school film making and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re going to use the streets to build this massive setpiece. So, it’s going to feel like making Spider-Man 1 again. [Music]
