Inside Andy Dick’s apparent drug overdose, decades-long addiction battle

Andy Dick is refusing to go to rehab despite suffering an apparent drug overdose in public. The comedian told TMZ, “I’m not going to be in rehab.” In a bizarre video captured inside his home in LA. When asked if he will seek treatment, Dick bluntly said no. He also told the outlet that he was alive and okay, but would not disclose exactly what happened. On Tuesday, December 9th, the 59-year-old was found unresponsive on the steps of a building in Hollywood, wearing pajama pants and Crocs and his signature glasses on the ground in front of him. An eyewitness told the Post that Dick was turning blue and needed multiple sprays of Narcan to be saved. When I saw him first, he was down, slumped over, and they pushed him up a little bit, and he fell backwards. When they finally got him up, his face and hands were blue. Dick later admitted that he did crack cocaine with a random man on the street, telling TMZ he doesn’t mind doing a little crack every now and then. The Los Angeles Fire Department said Dick was not sent to the hospital. It’s been a rough road for the comedy star since the height of his fame. In the9s, he stole scenes on the hit NBC sitcom News Radio opposite Joe Rogan. Decades later, Rogan opened up on his podcast about the strained relationship with his former co-star due to alcohol. There’s drunk Andy and when drunk Andy’s around, you just got to get the out of there. You know, you can tell the difference. It’s two different guys. He’s very aggressive. He gets like bangs in the car window and you’re like, “Oh no, it’s drunk Andy.” Yeah. In the 2000s, Dick also starred in the Ben Stiller Show and his own sketch series, both on MTV. Since then, he’s battled addiction and has had countless run-ins with the law. He’s been arrested several times for allegedly groping strangers. a 17-year-old girl in California in 2008, a woman’s husband in Montalk after streaking nude in 2014, an Uber driver’s genitals in West Hollywood in 2018. Notably, in 2007, he was pulled off the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live for touching Ivanka Trump. In 2012, Dick revealed to Dr. Drew that he’d been in and out of rehab a dozen times. I admit that I’m an alcoholic and and you know the whole part that it’s a disease I have trouble with. Still, well, cuz it doesn’t feel like a disease. I get that when I drink it ain’t no good. I know that. There’s also been boozefueled domestic violence incidents. One involving a metal chair, another a frying pan, and a disturbing incident at an RV park in 2022. I think I got ripped during my reef or something. No, but I was in uh the other RV with Andy and then in his bed. Yeah. Why? Dick’s arrest was live streamed on YouTube after a man named JJ accused him of molesting him, which he denied. The case was dismissed. Dick was released from jail and no formal charges were filed.

Long before Andy Dick was found unresponsive in the apparent throes of an overdose, he battled addiction.

The comedian’s patterns of legal drama, addiction, treatment and relapses have played out in the public eye and stretched decades — with Dick himself often leading the discussion with candid accounts of his battle.

On Tuesday, the struggle once again played out publicly, as Dick, 59, was found unconscious on a Hollywood street in broad daylight, per video obtained by TMZ.

As witnesses attempted to revive the limp comedian, an onlooker at the scene suggested somebody obtain Narcan — an emergency medication that effectively reverses opioid overdoses — and he was given a shot as he lay on a set of concrete steps in what appeared to be pajamas.
