Dick Van Dyke wants to be remembered for these 2 ‘iconic’ projects as he turns 100

I think the two things he always talks about, the two blessings that came to him was uh the Dick Van Djk show uh crafted by obviously Carl Reiner and the writing and he said that was a great and then it was Mary Poppins. Those two are really and that was Mr. Disney and uh those two are really kind of the iconic things that he wants to be remembered for. I think one of the hidden gems in the documentary is um the comic. It’s a little known movie. Everyone hasn’t seen it. It’s not, you know, it’s something Carl Rhina wrote. It’s a little darker. It ends on a sad note. It’s not typical Dick Van Djk, but it shows a career of a comic that’s a silent motion picture star that is kind of like aged out of the silent movie era. And that’s the story. And I think what’s fascinating, it’s kind, it’s certainly a nod to that era, the era that he grew up with and watched in movies and emulated, whether it was, you know, the Stan Laurels of the world or, you know, those kind of people, Buster Keaton, those kind of people he was nodding to, I think, in that film, honoring them. Honestly, what you see is what you get with Mr. Van Djk. He is just the most gracious, wonderful, charming guy and, you know, kind of the last of a generation of entertainers. And I think the film reflects that.

Dick Van Dyke wants to be remembered for two “iconic” projects as he celebrates his monumental 100th birthday on Saturday, Dec. 13.

“I think the two things he always talks about, the two blessings that came to him, were ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ and ‘Mary Poppins,’” Steve Boettcher, director of the upcoming documentary “Dick Van Dyke: 100th Celebration,” exclusively told The Post.
