Prince Harry directly requested that his security arrangements in the UK be reviewed, it has been revealed. The 41-year-old, who previously lost a high-profile legal claim in regards to his security in the UK, reportedly wrote to the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, to request a full security risk assessment.

The royal is understood to have been told that the royal and VIP Executive Committee [Ravec] will ask its risk management board [RMB] to reassess his threat level. It will be the first time that this has been carried out since 2020, the same year that Harry stepped down as a working royal and moved to the US.

Harry previously said that he felt it was unsafe for Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, to visit his home country.

While Harry has returned on numerous occasions, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet have not set foot in the UK since 2022.

Meghan last visited the UK with Harry in September 2022, with their children remaining in the US during their trip. Archie and Lilibet last spent time in the UK during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 – a trip that coincided with a meeting with their grandfather, King Charles.

The Sun has reported that, following his request to Mahmood, the RMB will collate evidence from the police, Government, and the prince’s team, with its findings expected to be presented to Ravec in January 2026.

Speaking on the matter, a Government spokesperson said: “The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our longstanding policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”

During a BBC interview, which came shortly after he lost the court appeal to have his round-the-clock security restored earlier this year, the father-of-two claimed “interference” by the Royal Household influenced the 2020 decision.

When he was asked what aspects of his current arrangements made him feel unsafe, Harry replied: “Everything.”

The new protection arrangement could allow not only Harry to spend more time in the UK, but could also mean that Meghan and their children could be set to join him on future visits.
