James Van Der Beek Says Cancer Was “Best Thing That Ever Happened” to Him in Health Update
James Vanderbeek is feeling grateful more than one year after the Dawson’s Creek alum shared his stage three colarctal cancer diagnosis. He shared during the December 19th episode of Today how his health battle has positively impacted his life in a new health update. Even going as far as calling it a gift. >> I had this little voice in my head that said, “You’re going to make changes that in your life that you would never ever make if you didn’t have this extreme of a diagnosis.” He emphasized that those changes would ultimately add quote healthy, happy years to his life. >> I don’t think I knew what it was to slow down before. I don’t think I knew what it was to really look at everything I eat, everything I put in my body. Really, the the biggest change I’d say would be this journey of self-love. James also says his diagnosis gave him a newfound perspective and appreciation for the little moments in his life, particularly when it comes to his six kids and his wife Kimberly. >> I would not be alive for my wife. She just has stepped up as a caretaker, as a nurse, as head of the household. I think before cancer, I took all these little beautiful moments as kind of part of a collective. I was just aware of everything. And now I’m able much more to just settle into that exact moment.
More than a year after James Van Der Beek first shared his colorectal cancer diagnosis, the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ alum shared an update on his health journey—and what he’s most grateful for.
