With Christmas just around the corner, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shared their new Christmas card photo on social media to spread some festive cheer. In a rare snap with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the couple are sending holiday wishes from their family “to yours”.

Continuing the royal tradition, the photo shows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with their two children in a woodland setting, standing on a small stone bridge above a stream. Posted on Meghan’s Instagram page, she captioned the post: “Happy Holidays! From our family to yours.”

Despite stepping back from their royal duties almost five years ago, the couple have kept up the tradition of posting a family photo around Christmas, much like the rest of the Royal Family. Prince William and Princess Kate also uploaded their festive photo yesterday, writing: “Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas.”

The photo of the future king and queen with their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – saw them sitting in a grassy field surrounded by daffodils. The snap was taken back in April by photographer Josh Shinner.

Last year’s Christmas card photos from the Sussexes was the first time in years that the couple has released a picture including their children, reports the Mirror. Although their faces were obscured, the multi-photo greeting show the children running excitedly towards their parents.

This festive snap was intended for professional use by the couple and their team, while Meghan and Harry send a separate card to their close family and friends. While they hope this card is kept private, many fans believe they saw last year’s personal card in a Gloria Steiman interview several months later.

Meghan’s close friend featured in an article for the Architectural Digest, which included snaps of her brownstone townhouse in New York along with the interview.

Looking through the pictures, fans spotted a black and white picture in her living room office of Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet. The snap shows the family lying on the ground, with the photo taken from above.

Since their children were born – Archie in 2012 and Lilibet in 2021 – Meghan and Harry have been known to be extremely protective of their children’s privacy, choosing to rarely put them in the limelight.

Back in 2023, the couple instead opted to post a snap of them beaming at the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf. Harry appeared looking smart in a black shirt and jacket, while Meghan stunned in an elegant dark green strapless gown.

Over on the joint Instagram account of the Duke and Duchess, named archewell_sussex_, the couple also shared an end-of-year video highlighting their charitable endeavours.

In the two minute video, 6-year-old Archie and 4-year-old Lilibet can be seen helping their parents bake cookies before Thanksgiving for a local charity.

The caption reads: “On behalf of the Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Archewell, we wish you a very happy holiday season and a joyful new year.”

The video also shows the work the couple have done under their charity Archewell Philanthropies, formally known as Archewell Foundation.

Announcing the name change on Friday, Harry and Meghan said that the charity has allowed themselves and their children to “expand upon their global philanthropic endeavours as a family”.
