Conan O’Brien reportedly intervened when guests tried to call the authorities during a dispute involving Nick Reiner and his now-deceased father at his holiday party over the weekend.
According to sources, the argument between Nick and Rob at O’Brien’s party escalated to the point where someone considered calling 911. This occurred just hours before the latter and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were allegedly murdered by their son. An insider told the Daily Mail that someone was about to call law enforcement. However, the source claimed that the late-night host stepped in and told his guests that they were at his house and he wasn’t going to call the police, which prevented the unnamed attendee from doing so.
They got in an argument, the father and son [at the party]. It got so bad and loud [that] someone wanted to call the police to report it. But Conan stepped in and said, ‘It’s my house, my party, I’m not calling the police.’ He talked them out of calling the police.
Another source backed up the claim. They said that some of the people present were concerned about Nick’s behavior. They claimed that many guests thought he should be placed under a “mental health hold” because of how quickly things escalated. The source also said that while they understood why O’Brien didn’t want the police to show up at his party, he believed he should have done it anyway because things were really getting out of control.
When things were really escalating, someone suggested calling the authorities. The discussion centered on possibly placing him on a mental-health hold. It’s understandable—no one wants police causing a scene—but the argument between Rob and Nick had gotten very heated.
At the party, Rob reportedly confided to a few friends that he was genuinely afraid his son might harm him. According to reports, the late director said, “I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me.” Those were also allegedly the last words he said at O’Brien’s party.
At the time of this article’s publication, neither O’Brien nor his representatives had confirmed or denied these claims. Many publications have reached out for statements, but have not heard back.
