Bowen Yang Cries In Final ‘SNL’ Sketch w/ Ariana Grande & Cher
There’ll be no more sorrow, no grief and [music and singing] pain. And I’ll be happy, >> happy. [music and singing] [cheering] [screaming] >> Bow and Yang has bid farewell to Saturday Night Live. During the Christmas episode on December 20th, the actor, who departed midway through the 51st season, starred in his emotional final sketch where he was joined by host Ariana Grande and musical guest Sher. In the skit, Yang played a Delta 1 lounge employee at the eggnog station who was on their last shift as he made references about what he would miss about the position while encountering fellow castmates. >> Free eggnog for our guests. Eggnog, get your eggnog. >> Whoa. Is that an industrial eggnog machine? >> Sure is. Have a glass. Oh, sorry. My machine’s kind of breaking down, so they’re closing my station. This is my last shift. >> Oh, no. Really? >> Yeah. It’s sad. I’m going to miss everything about this place. The way it smells, the celebrities who would come through. You know, just last week, Josh Okado was here >> in the lounge. Oh, cool. Well, thanks for everything and good luck. Throughout the sketch, he and Grande, who played his wife, sang a rendition of Please Come Home for Christmas. >> Ed, is that you? Are you still at the airport, Ed? It’s Christmas Eve. >> That’s when people want eggnog at the airport the most, honey. >> Oh, I know. I wish you were home. But I’m so proud of you. All the eggnog you’ve made over the years. >> Some of it was great. Some of it was rotten >> and a lot of it got cut. But, you know, I also think Eggnox’s kind of like me. It’s not for everyone, but the people who like it are my kind of people. [cheering] [applause] >> Plus, you’re way more fun with bourbon. >> Oh, I miss you, Ed. Please come home. I’ll be there soon, sweetie. Bells will be ringing. The sad [singing] sad news. Oh, what a Christmas [singing] to have the blues. My baby’s gone. [music and singing] I have no friends to wish [singing and music] me greetings. Once again, [singing] [singing] Christmas carols back. [music and singing] >> The Wicked star also encountered Keenan Thompson, who played a traveler that noted he’ll miss him. >> Where are you flying to today, Chris? Sir. >> Oh, my uh biological son finally found me, so the jig is up. >> Yeah, I’m going to go meet him. >> That’s [music] lovely. Can I interest you in Sebcnog? I’m sorry. >> Sure. Thank you. Um and uh good luck. I’m going to miss you. >> I’ll miss you too, Kenan Thompson. >> Thank you. >> At one point, the podcast host began to cry alongside Grande as he reflected on how lucky he was to have worked there. We’ll find [music and singing] you home. There’ll be no more sorrow, [singing] no grief and pain. >> And now I’ll be happy. [singing and music] Happy once again. >> Oh Rhonda, I should have come home earlier. I just feel so lucky that I ever got to work here and I just wanted to enjoy it for a little bit longer. The duo were then joined by Sher, Yang’s boss in the sketch, for the final minute. >> Especially the people. I’ve loved every single person who works here because they’ve done so much for me. Especially [music] my boss. >> Oh, your boss. >> There she is. [cheering] >> It’s the CEO of Eggnog at Delta. Man, what an honor. >> Ma’am, I just wanted [music] to say it’s been an honor working for you and any success I have after this will be thanks to [music] this place. Before I go, do you have any feedback for me? >> Well, everyone thought you were a little bit too gay. [laughter] >> Do you know what? You’re perfect for me. [applause and cheering] This place will always be home, but that’s time to go. Ooh, there’ll be no more sorrow, [snorts] no grief and pain. And I’ll be happy happy. [singing] News broke of Yang’s sudden departure earlier this week with the actor who started at SNL as a writer in 2018 confirming the headlines in an Instagram post. Thank you to Lauren for the job, for the standard, and for bringing everyone at work together. They all care deeply about people in the room, any room, enjoying themselves. I can’t believe I was ever included in that,” he wrote in part. Yang has not publicly revealed the reason for his exit as of publication.
