Alan Shearer’s two daughters are now both engaged to their rugby-playing boyfriends, but their relationships differ to their father’s.
Shearer is an icon on Tyneside, scoring 206 goals and assisting 58 times in 405 appearances in a Newcastle United shirt. Overall, the striker set the all-time Premier League record with 260 goals in 441 appearances and is renowned for being one of the league’s best-ever forwards.
The former striker was supported by wife Lainya throughout his footballing career and the pair share three adult children together – 33-year-old Chloe, 30-year-old Hollie and 25-year-old Will. Both of Shearer’s daughters spend plenty of time in the limelight, with each engaged to their famous partners.
Second-eldest Hollie said yes to England rugby star Joe Marchant in November 2024 after the centre popped the question in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Chloe has followed suit this year as fellow rugby player Micky Young asked the eldest Shearer daughter to marry him in Newcastle in November.
The 36-year-old posted the heartwarming moment on social media as he got down on one knee at the Wylam Brewery in the middle of the city. The scrum-half seems to have the approval of Chloe’s dad too as Alan replied to the post with three simple words.

“About time too,” he replied, alluding to the fact that he had been waiting for this engagement to take place for a while. Both couples spend a considerable amount of time in the spotlight due to their partners’ involvement in sports, but Hollie also has a personal venture of her own.
The 30-year-old is a singer and social media influencer with her own following across various platforms. Hollie boasts almost 80,000 fans on Instagram and a whopping 335,000 on TikTok.
Chloe is in talent management and most recently worked on Soccer Aid. Shearer, meanwhile, continues to work in punditry and has been married to his wife for over 30 years.

However, the couple are different from their children in that they keep their relationship out of the public eye, with Lainya preferring a private life. Shearer rarely mentions his wife during his work as a commentator and often leaves comments about Lainya for throwback stories about their relationship.
For example, Shearer recalled his wife’s humorous reaction to his Blackburn move in 1992 while she was pregnant with their first child, Chloe.
During an episode of The Rest of Football, he said: “When she was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, ‘What the f*** have you done?'”
