Legendary filmmaker James Cameron is many things, but it seems like U.S. citizen won’t ever be one of them.
In a brief red carpet interview with BuzzFeed Canada, the “Avatar” director said that despite living for decades in Los Angeles, he has no interest in becoming an American citizen.
“I did live there for 47 years in Los Angeles. I did think about it for a while because there was a lot of nobility in the ‘American democratic experiment’” the Canadian-born Cameron said. “But where the hell did that go? I’m over it.”
Cameron also addressed Canadians anger towards Trump and his claims of wanting to make Canada the 51st state.
“I think Canadians are way over it,” he said. “When there was all this talk about become the 51st state and all that crap, I said, ‘You don’t understand; we will fight to the last moose.’”
Cameron has been a frequent critic of Trump and his administration. Earlier this month, Cameron called him the “most narcissistic [expletive] in history since [expletive] Nero.”
Cameron’s latest film, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” is the third movie in the “Avatar” franchise. It stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Sigourney Weaver, and has grossed $483.3 million worldwide thus far.
