You know it's bleak when the showrunners need to reveal via interviews and news articles that A) Jancy actually broke up and that B) Mike clocked that the crush Will was referring to was him. Why can't these things be clear in the episode itself, expressed by our beloved characters?
Most of us saw the Jancy scene as a sort of unconventional proposal, going in line with how they've always deviated from societal norms and relationship stereotypes. I definitely didn't view it as a breakup, more of a "I love you and I want to marry you but not right now, and maybe not ever because we don't need a piece of paper to define us and we know what we mean to each other and that's more important and I'm glad we're finally being honest and communicating like healthy adults."
And as for Mike, I'm so sorry to Finn Wolfhard and most likely he was working with what little the Duffers gave to him for Vol 2, but in no way shape or form was it evident that he clocked anything to do with Will's feelings for him. Mike has always been an oblivious dude when it comes to Will's feelings. They nerfed his character in S3 and S4 and kinda-sorta salvaged him by making him a passionate and smart leader once again in S5 Vol 1 (save for his weirdly nonchalant reactions to his parents being brutalized by the demogorgon and Holly being abducted) but it all went downhill after Will got flung into the air and Mike went back to being stone-faced. The last we saw of the real Mike was when he hugged Will at the start of Shock Jock.
Finn has been making the same facial expressions and waggling his eyebrows since S4 while Millie and Noah have been crying in his face and acting their hearts out. Finn acted the same way once again when Will came out and you expect the audience to just believe Mike connected the dots without even saying a word or acting like the loving best friend he once was, barely showing support? Like why was Max more supportive, especially when Max and Will are nowhere near as close as Mike and Will?
Man, I'm a big Byler supporter but I don't even want it anymore if this is how the writers are treating these characters. I just want S1-S2 Mike back, even platonically, the one who didn't make his best friend feel like shit and actually showed more than one emotion. Heck, I wouldn't even mind getting pre-season 3 Mileven back if it were done properly like Lumax.
All in all, the finale is looking bleak af. The writers had ample time to tie up loose ends but they chose to give more screen time to Holly and the new kids while putting the OG cast on the back burner.
P.S. The Elmax reunion was underwhelming in the worst way possible, and that's me putting it nicely. WHY was Will more emotional at seeing Max alive than El? What the fuck were they smoking in the writers room?
11:18 Holy shit. JCB for ya, lol.
Rruuuuuuuuaaannnnnnnnnn
So so beautiful. So beautiful. Will doesn’t need to come out to a few people. He’s allowed to come out to the world. The scene was about so much more than just sexuality. I mean obviously that was the focus, but there are so many things to project onto it. It was so cathartic
a lot of people feel like they shouldn't have including the whole group which, i get where they are coming from. but i feel like it was not like he wanted to come out in like this group kind of way. But i think he kind of had to because Vecna had shown him that everyone would shun him out if he tried to be his you know complete self.. which led him to question himself and his own capability. it was important for him to know he is not.. less because he is different. and i think the actors did put that out. so yeah. i liked the acting and i also kinda loved the un-proposal scene. felt right for their story.
0:15 WHEN I TELL YOU I REWATCHED THIS SCENE LIKE 20 TIMES, I MEAN I REWATCHED THIS SCENE LIKE 20 TIMES.
Rn i don’t even care that they’re not endgame it’s the fact they gave him such an awful coming out scene and made him suddenly get over mike like it was a fleeting crush THAT SHIT HURTS
They did bad to uh my willy boy
1. Why was the coming out scene with like 20 people. It was supposed to feel intimate and real but kali whom he met like 30 fucking seconds ago had to be there right? And the acting was incredible, noah was carrying that scene but the script made no sense to me. Calling mike a mere "crush" and comparing him to tammy was crazy like no it's not just a crush. Will LOVES mike. Will calls out mike's name in the upside down and the memories of mike is what empowered him to get his powers. That is not a "crush".
2. The jancy scene was so confusing. Like I actually thought that it was supposed to be a reunion. If the audience can't tell if that scene was a reunion, a breakup, a proposal or them just taking a break it just shows how bad the writing was.
3. The stakes just don't feel that high like it's the last season. There should have been some deaths. It just feels like every actor has plot armour and there are no consequences as everyone seems to live.
4. Why did el have such less importance. Like there is no main character but why was she barely doing something when the show is about her? We do not need more side characters, just focus on the ones we have.
5. Some relationships felt so off to me, like why do el and mike have no chemistry. I get that they decided to not make byler canon then atleast let mileven have better scenes. Also you are telling me max meets lucas after years on coming out of her coma and they don't kiss. Like that scene was perfect but the kiss was supposed to be THE moment.
Overall I am severely disappointed and I really hope that the final would be able to fix this.
Edit – I PRAYY that we get a mike and will scene where will confesses his feelings even if he gets rejected mike needs to know about wills feeling and the painting.(I am so sad byler ain't happening like it was served on a silver platter for the writers and they still messed it up OMFG)
Every time I watch the scene where Max wakes up, even if it's just a second of it, I immediately start crying. Caleb and Sadie's acting in this scene is insane. Their chemistry is the best of any of the couples in this show hands down for me. The build up to this moment is so well done. I can't say enough good things about this scene and how they led up to it.
I cried so hard watching this scene last night.
11:17 it’s crazy how deep Jamie’s voice can go when he’s relaxed. Key to the vecna voice lol
they didn't nail it perfectly be fr. that scene was awful it was literally a humiliation ritual for Will created by two straight men.
Bravo! I peed and creamed in my panties. All on Xmas!
This fanbase is really the worst 😂 This season has been fire from the very first episode.
All this fanbase does is cry when they dont get what they want.
the longest and it was worst coming out scene ever lol bunch of homophobies
byler should happen or u just ruined everything
The amount of people hating on this is crazy. Imagine a show where EVERY episode of the entire show is rated above an 8/10 except maybe 3 or 4 of them lol
Ep.7 and 5-10 minutes of bro coming out gay was such a horrible scene to include it kinda ruined the the entire episode
No cuz that made me and my sister scream and then me and her cried idk why we just did but I love that for him and as a joke I said what if he says he’s gay and not me being right 😂❤
what the fuck? noah is not gayyy???!!
Volume 1 awesome. Volume 2 not awesome bad script writing and bad acting because of it. Volume 2 seems rushed, except for Will coming out which took way too long, seems forced and out of place. A bit corny too
noah's acting saved it, the writing was horrendous, stop glazing the duffers
idk because imo what people aren't getting is that will thought he wasn't going to see them again so he wanted to tell everyone about it, and this was in the eighties as well so he would've been awkward about it even if everyone knew like?? because it'd be better for him as well to tell the people he knows, even if it's a little bit, but trusts more than vecna about it if that makes sense? like he'd rather everyone he trusts knows rather than the one guy that has endlessly tortured him. but i agree it wasn't just a 'crush', he was yearning for AGES but maybe he didn't want to say stuff like that because he might not have wanted people to know who he was crushing on
idk though
