Beloved actress Laura Dern has high hopes for fans who go see her new film, Is This Thing On?
The Jurassic Park actress, 58, rose to stardom in films like Mask and Blue Velvet, and is still making waves with iconic roles in films and shows like Big Little Lies, Marriage Story, and Wild. But when it comes to her new film, Dern wants movie-goers to get it on.
“It could be a kind of sexy, date-night film,” Dern told the UK’s Telegraph. “Hopefully loads of couples who’ve been together for a long time are going to have super-hot sex.”
Directed by Bradley Cooper, Is This Thing On? stars Will Arnett as a man going through a divorce from Dern, who turns to stand-up comedy. Dern said that the complex jumble of emotions is perfect for inspiring couples to head to the bedroom.
“There is nothing sexier than being with the person who knows you better than anybody. There is no app that’s going to create that for anybody. Having sex with a stranger is not as hot as having it with the person you can do everything with and laugh hysterically with. That chemistry and the connection is just so beautiful and sexy.” Dern shared. “We don’t see that [enough] in movies.”
Dern Hit the Paris Runway This Fall
While she may be a legendary actress, Dern kicked off the runway show at the Gabriela Hearst fashion show this fall as part of Spring/Summer 2026 Paris Fashion Week in Paris, France. Wearing a floral dress covered with cream-colored flowers, the stunning gown flowed almost to the floor as Dern moved down the runway. She paired the look with matching sandals.

Dern’s Son is Also a Model
Dern isn’t the only model in the family. In 2018, her son, Ellery Walker Harper, whom Dern shares with ex-husband Ben Harper, made his runway debut at age 17 in the Calvin Klein show during New York Fashion Week, PEOPLE reported. Naturally, Dern was a proud mom sitting in the front row as her son worked the runway,
“Always a privilege to witness Raf Simons’ genius forCalvin Klein, especially when I am the proudest mama witnessing my son walk for him,” Dern captioned her Instagram post.
