Fancy getting married at King Charles’ house? Well, soon, you might be able to. Kind of.
The King’s Foundation is set to spend millions on an extension at its headquarters, Dumfries House, in a bid to create a new “go-to venue for high-end, luxury weddings and private events”.
The development at Dumfries House (a 300-year-old property in Scotland) has been named The King’s Hall in honour of the monarch. The King’s Hall will be a 430sqm extension added to the east wing and will cater for events of up to 200 guests. It’s due to open in July 2027 and, given the historic nature of the existing property, will be built using traditional techniques and locally-sourced materials.

“We’ve used a local quarry to mine the stone and utilised the same building techniques as those used to build Dumfries House 300 years ago, while also incorporating newer techniques and elements that we need to include to meet today’s building standards,” said Gordon Neil, executive director of the King’s Foundation.
Neil added that The King’s Hall “will be a true testament to the impact of His Majesty on Dumfries House and the vital education and employment it provides.”
Also speaking on the “exciting” nature of the project, Evan Samson, general manager of Dumfries House, said: “This new venue will give us a unique offering that will become part of the house, appointed and furnished to a luxury standard, and sufficiently versatile to host a broad range of events.”
“It opens doors for us to entertain so many more types of events and cater for so many people,” he continued.

According to its website, The King’s Foundation is a “global charity delivering for people, places and the planet.”
“The King’s Foundation, first formed in 1990, is a charity founded by King Charles III as Prince of Wales – inspired by His Majesty’s philosophy of Harmony,” the website adds. “We advocate for the change His Majesty wants to see in the world.”
Education and sustainability, farming and agriculture, traditional arts and crafts, health and wellbeing, and architecture and urbanism are some of the areas in which The King’s Foundation provides education, public services, and consultancy. The King’s Foundation – which is primarily funded through a mix of charitable donations and commercial activities – bought Dumfries House in 2007.
