Jennifer Lawrence spoke about her new movie Die My Love in conversation with Josh Horowitz at 92NY on Jan. 7

Noting that her friend Emma Stone had been nominated for an Actor Award that day and that Lawrence hadn’t, she said she jokingly texted a sad face to their group chat

“She’s been beating me [in awards races] for decades,” said Lawrence of her longtime friend, “and it’s an honor”

Jennifer Lawrence is not above trolling Emma Stone in their group texts.

“She got nominated for SAG today and I did not,” noted Lawrence, 35, in a Wednesday, Jan. 7 conversation with Josh Horowitz at New York’s 92NY Kaufmann Concert Hall about her new movie Die My Love.

“And all of our friends were like, ‘Congratulations, Emma,’” said the Oscar winner of the group chat she shares with Stone, 37, and others. “And then I would just do, like, a sad face.”

Stone was among the nominees for SAG-AFTRA’s 32nd annual Actor Awards (renamed from the SAG Awards) for her work leading Bugonia. While Lawrence was nominated for her lead performance in Die My Love at the Golden Globes, Gotham Awards and more, she did not receive recognition from the Actor Awards.

“And then every time she’s tried to, like, talk today, I’ve just been like … ‘If you can talk, why are you not so sorry?’ ” joked Lawrence onstage of Stone. “But yeah, no, she’s been beating me for decades, and it’s an honor.”

The besties have hung out both at industry events — with Lawrence presenting onstage when Stone won her second Oscar in 2024 for Poor Things — and out and about. The two have been up for many of the same movie roles, Lawrence said to Horowitz.

“The one that I wanted that she got was Easy A,” said the Hunger Games star with a laugh. “I was nuts for Easy A — and really should have gotten it, right? … It would have been great.”

The stars are also working with Cole Escola on a Miss Piggy movie starring the iconic Muppet character. Lawrence joked that Martin Scorsese or Paul Thomas Anderson were attached to direct the project, and that it would be R-rated. “No, it’s a family movie,” she clarified, for “gays and women.”

Reportedly among Lawrence’s other upcoming projects as actress and producer is The Wives, a murder mystery inspired by the Real Housewives reality franchise.
