Prince Harry’s desire to be vocal about his time in the Royal Family has led to rifts with several members of his family, in particular King Charles and Prince William. The 41-year-old is currently largely estranged from his family, although he has had several short meetings with his father since stepping back as a working royal.

Harry is not thought to have spoken to Prince William, 43, in a number of years, with the brothers once believed to have shared a close relationship. So what do you think? Since stepping down from royal duties, a shock decision that was announced on this day in 2020, Harry has voiced his frustrations of the Firm and various attacks on members of the family via televised interviews and his bombshell memoir Spare.

Shared in her recent article for the Daily Mail, royal editor Rebecca English wrote: “However most in royal circles are firmly of the belief that for any meaningful rapprochement to be made, the Prince owes his father – and his family – an apology for the way he has behaved. And given this is unlikely to be forthcoming, the gulf between Harry and the Windsors remains.”

According to the Mirror, Harry has ben urged to apologise to the King – especially in regards to his previous attack on Queen Camilla in his 2023 memoir. The Duke of Sussex referred to his stepmother as “the villian” and “dangerous” in his book.

Royal expert Jennie Bond said: “An apology to his father and his stepmother would also help – again, perhaps he has already done so, although I rather doubt it.”

She claims it could be a turning point in the ongoing royal feud if Harry were to apologise this year – and could benefit his children, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.

She said: “2026 could turn out to be a very good year for Harry. If his security review goes in his favour, he will feel that an obstacle to visiting the UK more often – and possibly bringing his children here – has been removed. It has also been a spanner in the works in his relationship with his father.”

Harry currently resides in California with Meghan and their two children.
