A returning Marvel star explains how they accidentally “broke” Pedro Pascal while filming Avengers: Doomsday. The cast of Avengers: Doomsday will feature a multitude of returning characters, from Chris Evans as Steve Rogers to Chris Hemsworth as Thor. The X-Men from the 20th Century Fox universe will also be coming back, including Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.

Now, while speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Cumming revealed how he accidentally injured Pascal on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. During a scene the pair shared, he explained how he accidentally hurt his co-star’s neck. He clarified the duo weren’t fighting at the time, and neither of their characters were using their powers in the scene either:

Alan Cumming: What was funny was my first scene with Pedro [Pascal]. He hurt his neck and had to go home. I broke Pedro.

Jimmy Kimmel: Mr. Fantastic hurt his neck? I thought he was made out of rubber, that doesn’t make any sense at all. Did you hurt his neck? Were you fighting with him at the time?

Alan Cumming: No, I wasn’t fighting. No, no. I was just sort of being…. We were just together in a scene. And I wasn’t fighting, no. But he’s got these long arms and everything, so it’s quite complicated. I do have a tail, but I didn’t have my tail on at the time. And Pedro didn’t have his arms on either.

Cumming went on to say that Pascal had to get “cupped” because of the incident, a form of neck therapy that was used to help alleviate his injury. While the actor doesn’t go into detail about what happened on-set, it appears the event was an accident. However, it does confirm Mr. Fantastic and Nightcrawler will be sharing scenes with one another.

The newest Avengers: Doomsday trailer officially confirmed the X-Men will be back in the movie, which will include Cumming reprising his role as Nightcrawler from X2. Other returning X-Men cast members include Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammar as Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

The bringing together of multiple Marvel properties means the intersection of many familiar characters. This is how Cumming managed to injure Pascal, while also confirming The Fantastic Four and the X-Men will be interacting at some point. It makes sense considering both properties used to be owned by 20th Century Fox before Disney’s acquisition.

With Avengers: Doomsday’s inclusion of the X-Men being the perfect way to send off Fox’s version of the characters, it will be compelling to see how they mingle with the characters in the MCU’s established canon. The converging of multiple timelines seems inevitable, though how it comes about and how Doctor Doom is at the center remains to be seen.

As for Cumming injuring Pascal, it’s unclear if there will ever be more details on how the moment played out between the two actors. For now, it seems like it’ll be under wraps, at least until more about Avengers: Doomsday has been confirmed. For now, it seems like the details of the injury will remain a secret.
