Prince Harry is waiting on a major decision in a long-running battle to have his security increased when he visits the UK and it’s claimed Buckingham Palace would have “no power” over the outcome. The 41-year-old, who lives in California with his wife Meghan and their two children Prince Archie, aged six, and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, lost a legal case in May last year to have police protection when he and his family come to Britain.
The Duke of Sussex had his security level downgraded when he stepped back from royal duties in 2020, but the prince has argued it was not safe to bring his family back to the country of his birth because he could not guarantee their safety. In the case last year, he contested the decision made by Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which authorises security for senior royals on behalf of the Home Office.
Now that decision is under review and it’s understood Harry is “confident” of a positive outcome and insiders told GB News the Palace would have “no such powers within Ravec” to change the decision made, whatever is decided by the review.
They added: “While they sit on the committee it is not their role to advise on threat analysis or appropriate mitigations. That is for the actual intelligence and security experts to advise on — as of course they do whenever the duke’s visits to the UK are being reviewed under the existing Ravec process.”
The result of the review into Harry’s security is expected later this month.
