Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday has received a brand new update about Robert Downey Jr.’s return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fifth installment of the blockbuster franchise will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026. Afterward, it will be followed by the debut of Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
What’s the new Doctor Doom update for Avengers: Doomsday?
Following the recent reports about the rumored appearance of the “Harbingers of Doom” in Avengers: Doomsday, a new rumor suggested that Doctor Doom’s team will be much bigger than expected. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will reportedly be assisted by multiple masked sidekicks (both men and women) in Doomsday. However, it’s unclear if these mysterious characters would be considered as loyal members of Doom’s cult or if they would be introduced as variants of the fan-favorite Marvel villain.
Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with Stephen McFeely writing the screenplay. The latest installment will feature the return of Avengers vets Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans. The ensemble cast will also include Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The fifth Avengers installment will also feature the return of X-Men stars Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Recent casting rumors suggested that Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, and Spider-Man might also appear in Doomsday.
