The Duke reportedly extended an invitation to Charles to attend the upcoming Invictus Games in Birmingham, England, but according to one Royal commentator, the King’s attendance is unlikely.

Royal author and Royal Holloway professor Pauline Maclaran weighed in on the matter, suggesting it would present difficulties for the monarch.

Initially, one might assume a conflict of interest exists, preventing Charles from attending what could be perceived as endorsing a private function, but this isn’t actually the issue.

Maclaran said: “It would be particularly appropriate for Charles to attend as Head of the British Armed Forces and his strong support for the military is well-known.”

Whilst attendance is permissible, the real obstacle lies elsewhere – the inevitable media spotlight it would generate.

Maclaran explained: “I think this will be difficult for the King because of all the media interest this will focus on his relationship with Harry.”

She added: “This attention risks detracting from the mission of the Invictus Games and the organizers are likely to be very wary of this becoming another media circus between the Sussexes and the royals.

“I think the only way this could be avoided would be if the relationship between the King and his son could be repaired in advance of the games so it’s no longer provoking speculation and gossip.”

While Harry’s intentions seem noble, it appears he may need to consider an alternative approach.

The Invictus Games are held biennially, with the next event slated for 2027.

It is anticipated that Harry and Meghan will be in the U.K. this upcoming summer for the ‘one-year-to-go’ celebrations, presenting the Duke with a chance to reconnect with his father and repair their relationship.
