Stranger Things has only just wrapped up, but star Gaten Matarazzo’s next project is already gearing up for its release. The film Pizza Movie will premiere at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), which takes place between 12-18 March.

For now, we’ve got a synopsis and a first-look picture, which shows us five people looking down at… something, with some confused expressions on their faces.

We’ve got Lulu Wilson in the back, but what’s this? It looks we’ve got two each of both Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone.

The synopsis gives us an idea of what might be going on, as it reads: “It’s a Friday night and college students Jack and Montgomery have got big plans: They’re going to do drugs and order pizza.

“But when the home-made drug they ingest turns out to be MUCH wilder than they thought, the simple journey down two flights of stairs to retrieve their pie becomes a mind-bindingly transformative quest.

“Still though, how hard can it be? The only thing in their way is a broken elevator, Montgomery’s social anxiety, the fact that everybody in the school hates Jack, a sociopathic RA, a vengeful butterfly, a robot with a dream, and this insane drug that has absolutely no regard for the basic laws of reality.”

The last bit would explain why we’re seeing double (twice!), but with such a wacky plot, it could be anything.

The film has been written and directed by Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher, who both served as Saturday Night Live writers and perform as the comedy duo BriTANicK.

Recently, Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer explained why the show ended with a Dungeons & Dragons game between Mike and his friends (and it did end, no secret episode to be found).

“That basement, specifically the Dungeons & Dragons game, represents their childhoods [and it’s] how we first met them as an audience,” he said.

“To say goodbye to it, you have to play one last time. It was such a blast shooting, and it really reminded us of the first day on set when we filmed the kids playing D&D [in Season 1]. That was the first thing we ever shot, and it felt appropriate that this would be the last thing we ever shot.”

Pizza Movie will premiere at SXSW in March. Stranger Things can be streamed on Netflix.
