Looking for what to watch this weekend? You’re in luck, because Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, and more of the best streaming services are serving up plenty of new movies to enjoy. From star-studded crime thrillers to heartfelt dramas and pitch-black comedies, there’s a little something for everybody streaming in the weekend ahead.
This week’s crop includes one of Netflix’s most high-profile originals of 2026, “The Rip,” starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, which debuts alongside the spicy dark thriller “Bone Lake.” Over on Hulu, you’ll find the buzzy crowdpleaser “Twinless,” a dark dramedy that’s best gone into knowing as little as possible. Meanwhile, Brendan Fraser’s quietly heartwarming “Rental Family” arrived on video-on-demand platforms. Or for a more high-octane watch, Paramount+ just got Edgar Wright’s spin on Stephen King’s “The Running Man.”

Netflix’s first must-watch movie of the year just arrived. Directed by “Narc’s” Joe Carnahan, “The Rip” is a tension-filled crime thriller that sees Matt Damon and Ben Affleck reunite with badass beards and nonstop bickering. “The Rip” follows a police squad led by Lieutenant Dane Dumars (Damon) and his second-in-command, Sergeant JD Byrne (Affleck) that stumbles on a cache of millions in a derelict house during an otherwise routine bust.
As they try to secure the scene and figure out their next steps, word gets out about their windfall. Complications multiply, suspicions boil over, and old fractions within the group start to crack. Expect plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Last year’s Sundance darling “Twinless” is finally streaming now on Hulu after hitting theaters stateside in September. While I haven’t seen it yet myself, all the buzz I’ve been hearing — plus its excellent 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes — has earned a top spot on my watchlist. Director James Sweeney co-stars alongside Dylan O’Brien as two young men who meet at a support group for twins who’ve lost a sibling.
Though they’re polar opposites on paper, they become fast friends, but soon inconsistencies start to surface as they share more about the tragedies that brought them together. “James Sweeney’s sophomore outing reveals a twisty, grief-ridden journey of the unexpected – buoyed by a perfectly sensitive Dylan O’Brien,” reads the movie’s critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Rental Family” is shaping up to be a real crowdpleaser (it’s sitting at a 96% score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes), offering up a sentimental slice of escapism in these unprecedented times without ever being too saccharine. Brendan Fraser’s ongoing career resurgence continues into the stratosphere with his turn as Phillip, a struggling American actor living in Japan. After seven years of trying to make it big, he’s only really known for playing a superhero-like tube of toothpaste in a surprisingly beloved series of commercials.

He’s struggling to find purpose when he’s offered a strange gig for an acting troupe that hires out its employees as stand-ins for family members or friends of strangers in emotional situations. But when Phillip begins immersing himself in his clients’ worlds, it blurs the line between performance and reality and proves how the way we connect to each other informs our sense of self.

After struggling in theaters, Edgar Wright’s spin on Stephen King’s “The Running Man” became an instant streaming hit after landing on Paramount+ this week, ranking No. 1 on the streamer’s top 10 list. Glen Powell stars as the working-class father Ben Richards, who, in a desperate bid to save his sick daughter, enters the world’s most dangerous game show. For 30 days, he’ll have to survive being hunted by professional assassins, with each day bringing a bigger jackpot for his family should he fail.
In the process of fighting for his life, he finds himself an unlikely hero in the fight against an oppressive regime. Though “The Running Man” lacks the visual and musical flourishes that make Wright’s movies such fan-favorites, it still delivers a stylish and breakneck ride that strays closer to its source material than the Arnold Schwarzenegger adaptation from the ‘80s.

One of last year’s darkest and most provocative thrillers, “Bone Lake,” is finally on Netflix, and this is one overlooked gem you won’t want to miss. While it won’t make the shortlist for any awards ceremonies, it’s got enough chilling thrills to keep you entertained as things go off the deep end in this vacation from hell.
Sage (Maddie Hasson) and Diego (Marco Pigossi) plan a romantic getaway at a secluded lakeside house that takes an awkward turn when another couple, Will (Alex Roe) and Cin (Andra Nechita), arrive on the property, shows up claiming to have the same place reserved. At first, the pair tries to find the silver lining in having strangers crash the party, but soon their relaxing retreat becomes a twisted game of manipulation and bloodshed.
