As if Dax Shepard weren’t weird enough about his own love life, he’s now going and making it other people’s problem too. On Tuesday, he had Marcello Hernández on his podcast Armchair Expert, where he seemed particularly invested in whether the SNL star is dating Sabrina Carpenter.
Shepard told Hernández he was “newly obsessed” with Carpenter after learning about her from his daughter. Apparently, he also learned that Hernández and Carpenter have appeared twice together on SNL in Hernández’s signature “Domingo” sketches, and Carpenter “arrested” him as Domingo at one of her concerts last year. All work-related interactions, if you ask me, but that didn’t stop Shepard from prying into whether there might be something more going on. After asking Hernández if he and Carpenter were “pals,” prompting Hernández to talk about the “Domingo” sketch and working with Carpenter, Shepard said, completely unprompted, “If I’m you again and I’m 28, I’m going to try to date her with all my might. Are you not trying your hardest to marry her?”
Hernández calmly shut down the speculation and took the prodding as an opportunity to brag about his girlfriend, who indeed sounds very cool. “I’m in a relationship,” he said. “Yeah, I’m in a relationship with a Dominican girl. She’s an architect, she’s unreal, she went to Yale.” According to People, Hernandez is dating Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral — they first took their relationship public in July, when she appeared with him on the red carpet at the premiere of Happy Gilmore 2, but have reportedly been together since at least January 2025.
Regardless, Hernández had nothing but good things to say about Carpenter, who he said was “really funny and cool.” “Sabrina’s really, like, she’s down — she’s down to clown, she’s down to think of something funny. She’s an actress,” he said. Sounds like a perfectly respectable way to speak about a colleague. Got it, Dax?
