The Santa Fe, New Mexico, home that legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in has reportedly found a buyer.

A sale was listed as pending as of Tuesday, January 27, less than two weeks after it hit the market, People reported.

The Wall Street Journal reported on January 15 that the 13,000-square-foot gated estate was listed by Sotheby’s International Realty for $6.25 million.

“There will be some buyers that are just adverse [sic] to purchasing a property where a death has occurred,” real estate agent Tara S. Earley told the publication at the time. “There are other buyers for whom that doesn’t matter. We are selling the property on its virtues and all of the positives.”

The six-bedroom home hit the market almost one year after the French Connection actor, 95, and his wife, 65, were found dead there on February 26, 2025.

Hackman’s body was discovered in a mudroom, and Arakawa was found in a bathroom, per People.

The Unforgiven actor died from Alzheimer’s and heart disease roughly seven days after his wife of 34 years died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare illness contracted through contact with infected rats or their urine, saliva or droppings.

As Globe previously reported, the home was excessively filled with belongings at the time of their deaths.

Given the state of the property, an insider told Globe, “That’s part of the reason why Betsy didn’t get a housekeeper or a full-time nurse for Gene.”

“I’ve heard she was ashamed given the condition of the property,” the source added. “Before she could do something about the situation, it was too late.”

Photos show that the couple seemingly hoarded multiple articles of clothing, shoe boxes and various other items that left closets and cabinets overflowing.

The late Academy Award-winning actor purchased the home in the 1990s.
