Dirty Dancing Sequel Moving Forward Nearly 40 Years After Film Release | E! News
Lionsgate announced a ‘Dirty Dancing’ sequel is in the works, with Jennifer Grey—who starred in the 1987 film alongside Patrick Swayze—reprising her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman. “The role of Baby has held a very deep and meaningful place in my heart, as it has in the hearts of so many fans over the years,” Jennifer, 65, said in a Jan. 27 press release. “I’ve long wondered where we might find Baby years later and what her life might be like, but it’s taken time to assemble the kind of people that I felt could be entrusted to build on the legacy of the original film.” Jennifer confirmed her involvement in this sequel in 2020. And while she’s excited to step back into her dancing shoes, she noted the film wouldn’t be able to recapture the spark her costar brought to the screen. “All I can say is there is no replacing anyone who’s passed,” she told People at the time. “You never try to repeat anything that’s magic like that. What's up with all these random sequels to films that are 20+ years old I swear this is the 10th time I've heard something like this.
The first film was set in 1963. Given the huge gap if this a legit sequel could be interesting. Making the story take place in the late 80’s could give this movie potential with an awesome soundtrack as the 80’s was an amazing decade of pop culture and music. Perhaps Baby is an instructor now?
