Jodie Comer is back in cinemas this year in unique period thriller The Death of Robin Hood, which promises to be a dark reimagining of the story we know. Ahead of that, you can check out a previous movie of hers that also aimed to challenge how you think.

Epic period drama The Last Duel was released in 2021 and centred on a knight in 14th century France who, after his wife accuses his former friend of sexually assaulting her, challenges his friend to a duel. The movie is presents the events from three different perspectives, leaving it to you to decide what is the truth.

If you missed it at the cinema and fancy checking it out, The Last Duel is now available to watch for free on Channel 4’s streaming service following its airing last night on Film4. If you don’t want to watch with adverts, The Last Duel is also available to watch right now on Disney+.

Directed by Ridley Scott, The Last Duel also stars Adam Driver, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Harriet Walter and Alex Lawther alongside Comer in the lead role of Marguerite de Carrouges, the woman at the centre of the duel.

It currently holds a strong 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 294 reviews with Chicago Sun-Times hailing it as a “bloody fantastic drama”, while San Jose Mercury News said it has an “outstanding ensemble cast anchored by Jodie Comer”.

Back in October 2021, Comer spoke to Digital Spy about the “really interesting experience” of having to shoot the same scene from multiple perspectives, and how that impacted her performance in each take.

“In both scenes the dialogue is the exact same, so the only shift is performance and emotion, and it’s very, very, very subtle and I know that that was always what our intention was that it needed to be such a subtle shift,” she explained.

“As an actress to get to kind of play around like that was extremely satisfying, but it was also a bit discombobulating when you’re wanting to portray your own character’s truth and instincts, and then you have to step away from that and play into the perspective of the other characters.”

The Last Duel is now available to watch on Channel 4’s streaming service and on Disney+.
