Man Allegedly Posed as FBI Agent to Try to Free Luigi Mangione | E! News
One Minnesota man was allegedly looking for a way to free Luigi Mangione. Mark Anderson has been arrested and charged for impersonating an FBI agent in an attempt to free an inmate from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Jan. 28, according to CNBC. Law enforcement sources confirmed to the outlet that Mangione—who was charged with the 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, for which he pleaded not guilty—was the intended target. According to a criminal complaint filed on Jan. 28 and viewed by E! News, Anderson “approached the intake area inside the MDC and claimed to uniformed members of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (‘BOP’) that he was an FBI agent in possession of paperwork ‘signed by a Judge’ authorizing the release of a specific inmate who was in custody at the MDC.” The 36-year-old was asked to provide his federal credentials, but instead Anderson displayed his Minnesota driver’s license and “claimed to be in possession of weapons.” The complaint also states that Anderson “displayed and threw” documents at the BOP officers. He was then detained by officers, with the complaint stating that authorities found a large barbecue-style fork and a round steel blade that resembles a pizza cutter in his backpack as he was taken into federal custody.
