A wardrobe malfunction had several viewers of the Six O’Clock News distracted during the weather report. Whilst delivering the forecast, weather presenter Lizzie Rizzini’s denim dress became the topic of conversation amongst viewers after the slit at the bottom of her dress exposed the top of her stockings.
The 49-year-old was wearing a stylish denim midi dress with a zip up the middle. The way the zip was laid out meant there was a slit at the bottom of the dress, meaning when Lizzie stepped to one side, the lace tops of her stockings became visible. The moment was caught on camera, and fans noticed.

One said: “Certainly brightens up dull weather.” Another agreed: “Taking our minds off the miserable weather.” A third asked: “Is that a black lace stocking-top I spy on the BBC News Weather?” They joked that they had never seen “stocking tops on the BBC before”.
Other viewers wondered if it was the top of a stocking at all, with one arguing that it was likely the bottom of a cycling short instead. “Sorry to rain on your parade, but suspect they are cycling shorts or thermals.” Another suggested it was a black band being used to hold up her microphone.
For one fan, the moment brightened their spirits. “There is life after Carol Kirkwood,” they wrote. Carol, who has been presenting the weather for BBC Breakfast since 1998, announced earlier this year that she would be stepping back from the show.
She explained on the show: “So, I’m going to be leaving – and it’s really hard, really hard for me to say this because I love my job. I love all of you guys and my weather colleagues and, of course, all the viewers.” Carol went on the explain that she needed to step back to spend more time with her husband.

In a follow-up statement on social media, she said: “It’s been an absolute privilege to bring you the weather every day. My job is something I’ve never taken for granted, and I’ve loved every minute!
“From early starts and all manner of forecasts, I’ve shared it with incredible colleagues at BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather and programmes across the BBC. I’d like to thank them for their support and friendship, which has meant the world.
“And to those watching and listening at home – thank you for all the kindness you have shown me over the years, being part of your mornings has been a joy. This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away. I’ll carry with me the most wonderful memories.”
The BBC released their own statement: “Carol’s contribution to BBC News and BBC Weather has been exceptional. From major national moments to the everyday forecasts that are such an important part of our audiences’ lives, she has set the gold standard for our accurate, valued journalism – always delivered with an appropriately sunny outlook.”
“She will be greatly missed by teams across the BBC. We wish her all the best for the future,” the added. Carol is set to leave the BBC at the end of April. Nothing has yet be said about a replacement.
