Catherine, Princess of Wales, has been praised for her show of strength during a recent visit to the London hospital in which she received her cancer treatment.

Princess Kate was visiting the Royal Marsden hospital in January 2025, where she met staff and patients and revealed her cancer was in remission.

Seen hugging other patients, body language expert Judi James said she showcased her “acute empathy”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “We’re used to seeing royals hugging strangers when they are out on visits, but most of these hug rituals tend to either be ‘parental’, cursory, or even ‘beatific’ in style, tone, and execution.

“Kate shows a capacity for going emotionally deeper, and the non-verbal cues here suggest that when she leans to hug a woman, the need for contact and empathy is almost mutual in that moment.

“Her empathy is prompted by personal and shared experience rather than the imagined variety, where someone will try to put themselves into someone else’s shoes while they’re communicating with them.”

Earlier this month, the Princess of Wales turned 44, sharing a reflective message following her cancer diagnosis.

Kate wrote: “The Mother Nature series has been a deeply personal, creative reflection on how nature has helped me heal.

“But it is also a story about the power of nature and creativity in collective healing. There is so much we can learn from mother nature, as we look to build a happier, healthier world. C”

Beneath her message, the future queen also shared a video in which she is filmed embracing nature in all its beauty.

She narrated the clip, in which she said: “Even in the coldest, darkest season, winter has a way of bringing us stillness, patience and quiet consideration.

“Where the stream slows just enough for us to see our own reflection. To discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Alongside the whispers in the pulse of every living thing.

“I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am. For the rivers within us flow with ease, fears washed away, cleanse and purify. Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.

“To be at one with nature; a quiet teacher and a soft voice that guides.

“In memory. Helping us to heal.”
