Before the Crown Princess' son was charged with assault he googled his own name and the word "rape". Now he explains why.
On day three of the trial, Marius Borg Høiby (29) continued his testimony regarding an alleged rape at Skaugum in 2018 – for which he denies criminal responsibility

Parts of Høiby's internet history were presented – which included videos with titles containing words such as "passed out" and "rape". The defence emphasised that these were not search terms but titles of websites he had visited. Before Høiby was charged with assault, he googled his own name and the word "rape", Aftenposten wrote Thursday morning. The Google search "Marius Rape Reddit" was made on 8 September 2024, just a month after Høiby was first arrested. On Thursday, Høiby explained why he searched for this online. Høiby referred to a previous situation where he said there were rumours he had raped a woman, something he doesn't think is true.
"The reason I searched for it long before was that there was a lot about it on Jodel and Reddit. As I mentioned yesterday, I keep track of everything" Høiby said.
He said that during a police interview, he asked the interviewer to turn off the camera and then voluntarily told him about these rumours. This is not part of the trial or the indictment.
The prosecutor asked several questions about the search history on Høiby's phones and data carriers.
"I find it extremely embarrassing to talk about this" said Høiby.
The prosecutor highlighted several words that Høiby is said to have searched for, some of which also contain the word "sleeping". The searches were presented and are legal pornography.

Former Kripos investigator Stig Berg Larsen also reviewed several Google searches that Høiby is said to have made, including "restraining order distance". The police emphasised that this does not necessarily mean that Høiby entered the search terms. "He may have started typing and then Google came up with search suggestions and hits" said Larsen

Lead investigator Mina Bankerud, who testified alongside Larsen, explained that it was the examination of Høiby's digital devices that uncovered media files that led the police to launch a rape investigation.Among other things, media files were found on Høiby's MacBook Pro showing the woman from the party with her eyes closed, lying on a sofa with her lower body naked.
"And you can see the hands of a person touching her genitals and inserting a finger into her vagina" she continued.
The prosecution has stated that there are four videos and ten still images that they believe show abuse committed by Høiby in 2018. They were reportedly found in hidden folders in a separate app – iSafe – on Høiby's data carriers.
When the police went through Høiby's iCloud account, they found that a deletion request had been initiated on several of the devices, Larsen explained. "If it had been connected to the internet, the content would have been deleted" he said.
VG has previously written about sexualised content in hidden folders and about Høiby allegedly attempting to delete digital evidence.
